North West Air Ambulance Charity duo abseil 150ft down Liverpool Cathedral for charity
1 year ago
Crew members from the North West Air Ambulance Charity took the plunge down the side of the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral.
Doctor Scott Beattie from Salford, and Critical Care Paramedic Deborah Rigg from Cumbria, took part in the ‘bucket list’ activity to raise money for the charity ensuring it continues to provide enhanced pre-hospital care at the roadside.
The dynamic duo, along with 26 other dedicated supporters, braved new heights for the charity by abseiling 150ft down the iconic Liverpool landmark.
Deborah added: “It was definitely a bucket list experience and a little nerve-wracking! Every penny raised today by our amazing supporters enables us to provide enhanced pre-hospital care to patients across the North West. To be able to share an experience like today with them is just fantastic, they are the lifeline of our charity.”
Both Scott and Deborah have been working for the North West-based charity for over seven years, their heightened skills mean they can provide enhanced pre-hospital care at the scene.
Scott added: “Abseiling down the cathedral was a fantastic experience, and then to cheer on other supporters who were taking the leap for the North West Air Ambulance Charity too was brilliant. Their support is vital for the charity and helps us to continue our lifesaving work, ensuring we’re there for people when they need us most.”
Events Manager Charlotte Carnell said: “The charity would not be here without the support of its community of fundraisers and partners. I’m so happy that both Scott and Deborah were able to join us in the abseil.
“Our lifesaving charity doesn’t get government funding, and we aren’t part of the NHS. We rely solely on our dedicated supporters to raise the £12 million we need each year to bring the hospital to the patient.
“That’s why the money our supporters and crew have raised today is so crucial. It will help ensure that our crew can continue to attend emergencies, giving patients across the North West highly specialised medical care at the scene.”
