NSPCC joins young people in Liverpool to share powerful anti-bullying messages

Children and young people from across the city came together at St George’s Hall to share messages of kindness, courage and support as part of the Anti-Bullying Schools Project, with the NSPCC helping to lead the conversation.

The event brought schools, performers and campaigners together to shine a spotlight on the impact of bullying and encourage young people to speak out. Mubashar Khaliq, NSPCC local campaigns manager, took to the stage to read statements written by young people about their experiences.

Schools including Knotty Ash Primary took part, along with the Anti-Bullying Schools Project signing choir. There were guest appearances too, including Mike Badger, co-founder of Liverpool band The La’s, who performed a track written especially for the event, and former Everton midfielder Tony Grant.

The NSPCC revealed that in 2024/25, Childline delivered 6,617 counselling sessions where bullying was the main concern. Most involved in-person bullying, while others related to online abuse.

Anti-Bullying Week 2025 (10–14 November), led by the Anti-Bullying Alliance, centres on the theme ‘power for good’.

Mubashar said:
“Over 500 children and young people joined in person, with many more online. We were proud to stand alongside campaigners, creatives and community leaders to amplify young voices and promote kindness and inclusion.”

Tegan, an NSPCC lived experience advocate, shared the lasting impact bullying had on her life:
“I felt upset and frightened. It made no sense to me. After four years the bullying stopped, and I slowly started to enjoy school again. Speaking out changed everything. That’s why I want other young people to know Childline is always there.”

Shaun Friel, director of Childline, added:
“Bullying can take many forms, and its impact can stay with young people into adulthood. Anti-Bullying Week gives us the chance to raise awareness and challenge bullying wherever it happens. Bullying thrives in silence — speaking up protects young lives.”

Martha Boateng, director of the Anti-Bullying Alliance, said:
“With so many children turning to Childline, it’s clear bullying continues to have a deep impact. Every adult has a role to play. We’re calling on everyone to use their power for good.”

If an adult is concerned about a child, they can contact the NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000 or email help@nspcc.org.uk.

Young people who need support can contact Childline on 0800 1111 or use the 1-2-1 chat here.
