Liverpool Central Library is offering visitors an extremely rare opportunity to see two volumes of John James Audubon’s Birds of America, one of the rarest books in the world, and learn more about its history and conservation.
Join experts from our team, as they talk about the history of the book and Audubon’s links to Liverpool. Visitors will be able to view two of these extraordinary books and their incredibly illustrated birds close up as the pages are turned right in front of their eyes.
The books will be available for viewing on selected dates in January and February 2019, viewing sessions are free but booking is essential.
John Keane, Head of Libraries in Liverpool said; โThe City of Liverpool has the entire, four volume collection of Audubonโs Birds of America. These books are extremely rare and we are thrilled to be able to offer visitors to Liverpool Central Library the opportunity to see two of them up close and watch the pages being turned.
Visitors will also be able to ask questions about the history of the books, and how we curate them, and why they are so rare and significant.โ
