One of the Royal Court’s best loved characters has been given his own show…

One of our favourite night’s out in the city has got to be a night filled with laughter at Liverpool’s  Royal Court . A slap up meal,  a great bar and a hilarious Scouse comedy production – what more could you want?

The team at the newly renovated theatre are bringing us a brand new show, written and starring one of its best loved regular actors, Alan Stocks as Father O’ Flaherty.

Alan is joined on stage by Clare Bowles, Helen Carter, Paul Duckworth and Keddy Sutton with Bob Eaton Directing.

Father O’ Flaherty has also appeared in Merry Ding Dong, Scouse Pacific, Little Scouse On The Prairie and Mam I’m Ere! He is best known for his long, rambling sermons where he pokes good natured fun at himself, the church and Liverpool life in general. He now has his own show Father O’ Flaherty Saves Our Souls.

Father O’Flaherty has been a priest for as long as he can remember. He can’t remember much anymore but he’s pretty sure it’s been a while. He’s a maverick who doesn’t play by the rules, which is OK if you are a New York cop but it’s kind of frowned upon by the Church.

The Bishop has had reports of his behaviour and wants him out. He’s in tonight so this is the good Father’s last chance to prove that he is worthy of his exalted place.

Be part of the congregation as he delivers his finest, and possibly final, mass.

The show is the third in an unofficial series of plays that The Court has produced by members of their regular cast. Paul Broughton and Michael Starke wrote and performed Shed in Spring 2015 and Lindzi Germain, Angela Simms and Lynn Clarke wrote and starred in the smash hit comedy The Royal earlier this year.

Kevin Fearon, Executive Producer at Liverpool’s Royal Court tells us more: “Father O’Flaherty is one of our favourite characters and audiences fall about laughing whenever he is on. Initially we were talking to Alan about writing a one hour comedy based around the good Father but when I read it I immediately wanted more so now it is a full length show. The cast are in rehearsals now and I can promise you that it is going to be a very, very funny night out.

“We are lucky to have such talented people working here at The Court and I’m looking forward to producing more new writing from local actors and performers in the future.”
