The final trailer for Venom: The Last Dance has been released, featuring Tom Hardy as the main character, as well as a sneak peek of Stephen Graham in the film.
The film, which will be released in the UK on October 25, will see Hardy return to play Venom and his host Eddie Brock and see the pair forced to make “a devastating decision”.
In the advert, the antihero can be seen fighting on top of a plane with a spider-like villain, before telling Eddie “my home has found us” and explaining that his creator Knull is hunting for him as they “have something he needs”.
The character is also seen transforming into a fish and riding a motorcycle to escape enemies.
At one point in the trailer Venom tells his host: “We’ve come a long way you and me, but we are screwed.”
A Sony Pictures statement on the film read:
“In Venom: The Last Dance, Tom Hardy returns as Venom, one of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters, for the final film in the trilogy.
“Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie’s last dance.”
Light-hearted moments in the trailer see Venom knocking out a man who starts urinating on him, and developing a gambling habit in a Las Vegas casino as he tells Eddie “it’s like all of my problems have gone away” before adding “we need more money”.
The film will also star Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach and Stephen Graham.
Venom: The Last Dance will be directed by Kelly Marcel from a screenplay she wrote alongside Hardy.
The film will be the last in the Venom series following 2018’s Venom and 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Local leaders are set to approve a £96 million funding package to build the Liverpool Baltic station, as part of Mayor Steve Rotheram’s ongoing work to improve rail access across the Liverpool City Region.
The package will be recommended for approval at the September Combined Authority meeting, paving the way for a planning application to be submitted to Liverpool City Council in October. Pending approvals from the Department for Transport, construction will begin next year, with the Mayor pledging to have the station open by 2027.
The investment will fund the new station, alongside improvements to active travel and surrounding public spaces, following significant support from a recent public consultation. The Liverpool Baltic station, set to be located on Merseyrail’s Northern Line, will serve one of the city’s most dynamic districts, recently named the 11th coolest neighbourhood in the world by Time Out magazine.
Plans for Liverpool Baltic include step-free access from the street to the train, passenger waiting facilities, accessible toilets, secure cycle parking, and improved links to the area’s walking and cycling networks. These enhancements aim to encourage more people to choose public transport, supporting the region’s climate goals.

Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, said:
“I’ve always said that a world-class transport network is key to unlocking the full potential of our region – and that’s exactly what we’re building. This new station at Liverpool Baltic is just another step on the journey towards making our Merseyrail system bigger, better, and more accessible for everyone.
“People here are passionate about their communities, and I’m really proud to see the overwhelming support this project has seen, which reflects just how much of a difference it’s going to make. It’s about more than just getting from A to B – it’s about connecting people with jobs, education, and each other while cutting down on car journeys to help us hit our net-zero targets.
“We’re investing nearly £100 million into a station that’s going to change the face of one of the coolest, most vibrant areas in the country – and we’re not stopping there. We’ve got plans for three more stations in Daresbury, Woodchurch, and Carr Mill. Good public transport is a right that should be enjoyed by all, not just those living in London.”

The development builds on the success of the £80 million Headbolt Lane station, which opened last year in Kirkby. This station is served by pioneering battery-powered trains which have brought about the first extension to the Merseyrail network in a generation, with further growth planned. The Mayor has also committed to delivering three further stations in Daresbury, Woodchurch, and Carr Mill, with work on all three set to begin by the end of this decade.
The £96 million required for the station will come from the £710 million City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS), dedicated to major transport projects across the city region. Alongside this, funding for various active travel schemes will also be discussed at this month’s Combined Authority meeting.

Liverpool City Council has welcomed the Government’s announcement that the city is to receive a share of funding from a newly established Community Recovery Fund following the recent riots.
Liverpool will receive £600k from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government in response to the serious violent disorder that took place in the city centre and Walton in August.
The support package can be used to partner with local communities to best support the recovery, including helping high streets, and initiatives to strengthen community cohesion.
In her letter to Chief Executive Andrew Lewis, Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner thanked the Council for its work:
“I would like to thank you for your work and tireless dedication during this difficult period – local authorities have been at the forefront of the response and there have been many examples of communities coming together, proving that we are much stronger than the minority whose senseless violence and intimidation has caused such damage.
“I have established a new Communities and Recovery Steering Group, which met for the first time on 11 September. Recognising the significant costs already incurred by places, the Group has agreed to launch the Community Recovery Fund to support those communities most significantly impacted. This is an exceptional fund being provided because of the widespread nature and extent of disorder, as well as the significant repercussions the unrest has had on communities and religious groups.”
Work is already under way to bring Spellow Library and Hub in Walton, which was damaged during the unrest, back into use.
Liverpool City Council Leader, Cllr Liam Robinson, said:
“I very much welcome this announcement of funding from the Government. We are absolutely determined to do all we can to improve life for deprived communities in our city.
“We are committed to ensuring that we build back better from the events of August, including making sure that Spellow Library and Hub is absolutely at the heart of providing opportunities and support for local residents in the area.
“We are looking forward to constructive discussions with the Government about further support to tackle some of the deep-seated social problems that years of austerity have helped ferment.”

The Mersey Ferry has always been more than just a way to cross the river—it’s been part of the Liverpool City Region’s identity for generations. Now, for the first time in over 60 years, a brand-new ferry is coming to the waters of the Mersey, carrying that tradition forward with a future focus.
Today, Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram has unveiled the first look at the new Mersey Ferry, offering an exciting preview of the sleek, modern designs that will define the ferry’s future. Built with a nod to its iconic past, this new ferry is designed to offer a world-class experience to both everyday passengers and event-goers alike.
Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram who announced the new ferry in December 2023, said:
“The great Gerry Marsden sang about a ‘ferry cross the Mersey’ which is as iconic as the Liver Building or the Cammel Laird shipyard it will be built.
“We’ve taken something that’s deeply woven into the history of our region and reimagined it for the future,” said Steve Rotheram. “This ferry isn’t just about getting from one side of the river to the other—it’s about the enjoyment, the views, the memories, and the moments people will share on board. From commuters to couples celebrating their wedding day, we’re creating a space that’s as special as the Mersey itself.”
The Future of an Iconic Journey
Honouring its rich heritage, the ferry’s exterior will retain the traditional livery and colours that are so beloved by passengers, but the interior takes a bold leap forward with contemporary styling, warm tones, and plenty of natural light. The lower deck will feature comfortable seating, bike storage, and a cozy event space perfect for intimate celebrations.
On the upper deck, passengers will be treated to panoramic views of the Mersey through full-length windows, with a spacious bar area and event space suitable for weddings, parties, and corporate events. The ferry will also include outdoor seating, making it an unbeatable venue for soaking in the sights of the Liverpool skyline.
Sustainable, Accessible, and Designed for All

Beyond its stunning looks, the new ferry is also a symbol of the Liverpool City Region’s commitment to a greener, more sustainable future. The vessel is being designed with cutting-edge green technologies that will help reduce its environmental impact while enhancing the iconic experience it offers.
Accessibility is also a top priority. A designated lift will provide easy access to the upper deck, ensuring all passengers, regardless of mobility, can enjoy the ferry’s amenities and views.
Get a Sneak Peek Today

Starting today, visitors can explore a virtual tour of the ferry at Seacombe Terminal’s ‘Future of the Ferries’ display. The immersive experience allows visitors to walk through the new ferry, exploring both the upper and lower decks and getting a feel for the space that will soon become a new local landmark.
“We’re building more than just a ferry—we’re building on our legacy,” Rotheram added. “This new vessel is a testament to what we can achieve when we combine innovation, sustainability, and a respect for tradition. It’s been designed for the people of our region and for everyone who visits us—ensuring that the Mersey Ferries continue to be a source of pride and joy for future generations.”
Come Aboard the Future

This new ferry is more than a way to travel—it’s a space where memories will be made. Whether you’re commuting to work, celebrating with friends, or simply soaking in the views, the new Mersey Ferry will provide an unforgettable experience for everyone.

The NSPCC has stepped in to host a free drama workshop for young people after the Spellow Library Hub on County Road, Walton, was damaged by fire during riots last month.
The much-loved Spellow Library Hub, which was opened last year to serve the local community, was set ablaze during riots in August and suffered severe damage to its ground floor.
The drama workshop was due to be held at the library last month, but is now taking place on Saturday 14th September at 11am at the North West hub of the NSPCC, on Great Homer Street, Liverpool.
The session for 8 to13-year-olds is being run by ArtsGroupie, a Liverpool-based community interest company, which provides access to the arts in the North West and beyond.
The workshop is due to be a fun-filled session of creativity, expression and storytelling and is part of the company’s Emerging Voices project, supported by Arts Council England.
ArtsGroupie Creative Director, John McGuire, said:
“This is a fantastic opportunity for young aspiring actors to explore their talents, build confidence, and make new friends in a supportive environment.
“We’re really grateful to the NSPCC for letting us use the space at their North West hub.”
Tony Kelly, NSPCC North West Children’s Team Manager, said:

“Having been running for well over 20 years, the championship is always hugely popular and brings in crowds from all corners of the North of England for a unique and stunning experience.
“People love all aspects of the show from the music to the array of colour, and of course the jaw-dropping pyrotechnics.”
So if you want to join them and be part of the thrills, here’s everything you need to know …
What is The British Musical Fireworks Championship?
The British Musical Firework Championship’s one of the most colourful and exciting competitions which aims to find out who’s the best in the world of pyrotechnics. Companies create spectacular displays which are choreographed and set to music, and a panel of judges decides which they think is the best and will be crowned ultimate winner. You’ll have your favourites on each night – but they’ll all be amazing.

When is it?
It’s being held on Friday and Saturday, September 20-21, with gates opening from 6pm (5.30pm for visitors with additional needs). The action starts at 8pm on both nights.
Where is it?
The championship will be held, as always, in Victoria Park, Southport.
How many displays are there?
There will be three displays on both evenings, each lasting for around 15 minutes.
That’s a lot of fireworks!
It really is. During the competition, more than two tonnes of explosive material are used with the total weight of fireworks totalling more than 10 tonnes. Each show needs around 5 kilometres of wire to connect the electrical circuits and 15 technicians working for 12 hours-plus to set up the displays.
Who is competing this year?

Friday
8pm – Electrify Pyrotechnics
8pm – Bright Sparks Fireworks
9pm – Xplosive Fireworks
Saturday
8pm – Dynamite Fireworks
8.30pm – The Art of Sparks
9pm – Fully Fused Fireworks
How much are tickets and are there any left?
General admission tickets are £12 each with children under five FREE (although they still need a ticket) and seated areas are £25 per person. Tickets for both are still available and it’s a ticket-only event with NO GATE SALES on the night.
What else is there?
It’s not just fireworks. You can make it a real family event because there are always plenty of food and drinks stalls, and there’s live music on both nights from 7pm. There are also children’s inflatables, glitter and face painting, and other attractions.
Can you take your own food?
Yes you can. Food is allowed on site but no BBQs or open fires for safety reasons.

How do I get there?
Merseyrail runs regular train services from Liverpool to Southport – check times at https://www.merseyrail.org/ – and Arriva and Stagecoach both operate bus services.
www.arrivabus.co.uk/ and https://www.stagecoachbus.com/
If you’re planning to drive there, put PR8 1RX into the Sat Nav.
Can I park?
Yes, there’s official parking at Princes Park which opens from 4pm and costs £8 per car. You can pay by cash or card, but card payment is preferred.
Road closures
Marine Drive will be closed from 7.15pm and re-opened once the final display has finished. Rotten Row is closed from 4pm.
Are dogs allowed?
Dogs are allowed but it’s strongly advised you don’t take them due to the noise of the fireworks. If you do take your dog, they must stay on a lead.

Residents across Wirral have been seeing the benefit of a one-off injection of funding that has allowed the council to undertake a significant environmental project targeting some of the worst affected alleyways in the borough.
Nearly £400,000 has been invested in the programme to recruit dedicated teams on a temporary basis and purchase specialist machinery to clear alleyways in places where issues were so bad that routine cleansing was not able to be carried out there.
The two teams set to work in July and wasted little time in making a big impact on these areas, largely doing the clearances by hand to begin with while they awaited the delivery of the new machinery to assist.
Streets in Wallasey, Birkenhead, New Ferry and Meols were all treated early on in the project with the likes of fly-tipped items, furniture, general waste and vegetation all having to be removed.
The alleyway project is just one part of the £2.2m funding allocated by elected members to a one-off ‘Neighbourhood Investment Fund’ for 2024-25. This compromises of £1.2 million in revenue funding – this is money for ongoing costs such as additional staffing – and a £1m capital investment for one-off spending on things like machinery and infrastructure.
Other improvements being funded under the ‘Neighbourhood Investment Fund’ include £100,000 for gully cleaning, including investigating and fixing potential blockages, £300,000 to tackle known ‘grot spots’ which are areas of often private land that attract a disproportionate amount of illegal dumping, and £300,000 to transform rewilded areas into new pollinator sites.
Wirral Council leader, Cllr Paul Stuart, explained the reasoning behind council agreeing to create the fund from this year’s budget.
“Council staff work extremely hard in increasingly challenging circumstances to deliver high quality services to residents. Often, though, elected members like me, as well as residents, will ask them for help on local issues that for capacity or resource reasons they simply can’t deliver as part of their daily duties.
“For that reason, members approved the creation of this combined revenue and capital fund to enable a widespread programme of environmental improvements that would provide a visible, lasting impact on neighbourhoods in all parts of the borough.
“The result is a wide-reaching set of activities to take place up until the end of March next year which will see additional weed removal, the clearance of problem alleyways, clearing of ‘grot spots’, increased grounds maintenance across the borough, gully cleansing and repairs and new or renovated public benches.
“The fund is enabling the council to employ additional temporary staff to deliver the programmes and at the same time invest in specialist equipment, such as ‘weed ripper’ machines, that will then stay within the council for many years to assist the existing teams.”

“We’re really pleased to be able to host these again at Southport Market throughout this autumn and winter, thanks to the ongoing support of Halliwell Jones MINI in Southport and their Big Love campaign.
“We’d love to thank them for making these events possible. It works really well with how much they support the local community through their MINI Big Love campaign.

“We have been running comedy bingo socials at Southport Market for the past 18 months, ever since the cost of living crisis began affecting everyone in January last year.
“Lots of families were also hit hard by the impact of the Covid pandemic and years of lockdown. Social isolation has become a massive issue for so many people.
“We wanted to organise something that was fun for people to enjoy, relaxed, easy to get to, and would put a big smile on everyone’s face.
“It’s really affordable too with just £3 per ticket, which includes all your bingo books, plus a free drink, and the chance to win some excellent prizes.
“Our Comedy Bingo Socials were originally developed with the aim of encouraging pensioners to come out and enjoy each others’ company and have a great time.
“But the event has really developed, and now we are attracting people of all ages.
“We attract senior citizens, young parents, kids running around, people living on their own, people who work in the evenings, people who are new to Southport, all sorts. It makes for a great atmosphere. Our oldest bingo winner so far has been 100 years old!
“Southport Market is a fabulous venue to be. It’s really central, it’s a beautiful space and all the bars and food outlets are open if anyone wants to grab something to eat or drink while they’re there.
“It has been great working with the Tourism team at Sefton Council to put this together.
“We have kept the ticket prices very low to try and encourage as many people to come and join us for these fun afternoons as possible.
“It’s a very warm and welcoming environment, perfect for people of all ages to enjoy a real laugh together.”

A whole lot of love’s been poured into a popular Liverpool brewery after it was saved from closure in January.
Love Lane Brewery was bought out of administration by local businessman and Home Bargains’ owner Tom Morris – and now the Baltic Triangle venue’s back with style, quality, and a load of new events and experiences.
“It’s really exciting,” says Becky Lazell-Keenan, events and marketing manager for Love Lane Brewery. “It’s feels good to have not just saved a well-known and loved Liverpool brand, but to have breathed new life into it.
“Love Lane Brewery, Bar & Kitchen has been totally refurbished to give it a cosier, gastropub feel, and the quality of everything is better.”
She adds: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming back customers who already know us, as well as new guests of all ages … and their dogs!”

The new loved-up venue opened in April and is being overseen by The Quarter owner Gary Manning, who’s related to Tom.
It’s undergone a total rethink in terms of what it does and what it offers, with the emphasis on everything being better than ever.
Food has been one of the biggest areas of change with a varied menu and a focus on sustainable, seasonal, and fresh ingredients being used. As much as possible is made in house, including its amazing soups, bread and pies, and it uses – why wouldn’t it? – Love Lane Brewery beers in the batter for its always-popular fish and chips. There’ll be seasonal daily specials too.
“It’s all about attention to detail,” says Becky. “We use the best suppliers for our meat and vegetables, and there’s just extra love going into our food, and drink.
“All of our chefs have worked in some of the best restaurants in the North West – and our head chef Nathan Booth has been on MasterChef!”

Production resumed on Love Lane’s core range of beers in June, with Love Lane lager, pale ale, neipa and session once again available in the Baltic venue (and Home Bargains!).
“We’ve also brought back another famous Liverpool brand, Higson’s, which was once brewed at Cain’s Brewery Village, to Love Lane,” Becky adds. “It has such a history across the city, and you can see its branded features and memorabilia in some of our décor. We have Higson’s in bottle and cask.
“Our brewery tours will continue – along with Gin Distillery Tours of Turncoat Gin which is now based here – and we hope to expand the Love Lane range, and Higson’s beers, again in time.”
There will be a full programme of ongoing events at the Bridgewater Street venue, from its Quiz Night which is held on the first Thursday of every month, to food and drink events and experiences.

Thursday, September 26 sees a Turncoat Gin and Food Pairing Evening where you can savour five small plates of food with a carefully selected range of gin tasters, cocktails and G&Ts.
There will be a fun night of food and wine with its C&O Wine and Food Pairing Evening on Thursday, October 17, and on Wednesday, October 23, guest chef Tony Singh will treat guests to a Curry Night with delicious Punjabi food and Love Lane and Higson’s beers.
Other events include more guest chef evenings, a wreath-making event: “And dare I say we have got a Christmas menu with a twist – and we are already taking bookings.”

Becky says: “We’ve got the perfect spaces for Christmas parties and private spaces; and we are going to continue to host wedding receptions. We have become more and more popular as a wedding venue (and honoured all those that were booked here under the previous owners).
“We appeal to all ages, with our Sunday Lunch especially popular with families, and we just can’t wait to see everyone.”
The venue is open from Tuesday to Sunday.

The Right Reverend James Jones, former Bishop of Liverpool and chair of the Hillsborough Independent Panel, has offered his assistance to the Government in shaping the long-awaited Hillsborough Law.
Hillsborough Law, which would introduce a legal duty of candour for public authorities, was promised in the King’s Speech earlier this year by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s Government.
Right Reverend James Jones said:
“We’re aware of other public inquiries, we’re aware of millions of words being written about various public tragedies and the families’ feeling is there’s got to be more than words, there’s got to be action and it’s got to lead to change – a change in culture and a change in law.
“So, the Hillsborough families are reassured that in the King’s Speech the new Government has promised to put on statute the Hillsborough Law.
“I’ve written to the Prime Minister offering my help, having been involved with the families, and I look forward to the Government reaching out to those of us, especially the families, who have experienced these tragedies so that future legislation can be shaped by the families’ own experiences.
“It would be sad if a Hillsborough Law was produced and the families and survivors looked at it and said ‘well that wouldn’t have made any difference’.
“Let’s listen to the families of the Grenfell Tower scandal, of the infected blood scandal, of the Covid pandemic, of the Post Office scandal. Let’s listen to the people that have been badly treated, learn from their experience and change what needs to be changed.”

The former bishop spoke after meeting Hillsborough families as a review of the forensic pathology which followed the 1989 disaster was published.
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said:
“This report is a stark reminder of the extent to which the families were failed and this government is committed to helping right the wrongs.
“We are introducing the Hillsborough Law, which will place a duty of candour on all public servants and authorities, building a culture of honesty and integrity, and ensuring that the institutional defensiveness and coverups seen in the wake of tragedies like Hillsborough are never repeated.”
The review was one of 25 recommendations made in Rt Revd Jones’s 2017 report The Patronising Disposition Of Unaccountable Power, which looked at the experiences of the families of the 97 football fans who died because of the crush at the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest on April 15 1989.

Everyone loves spotting the seals off the coast in Wirral but now is the peak time for baby seal pups to get washed up on beaches and docks around our coast.
Hundreds of pregnant seals who spend spring and summer on West Hoyle Bank off Hilbre Island have moved to sheltered beaches in North Wales to give birth.
If they’re disturbed before the pups are able to fend for themselves, or they get tossed into the sea in a storm, they can end up abandoned and alone.
That’s when members of the public often become their biggest risk.
So, what should you do if you find a seal pup washed up around Liverpool or Wirral, on the beach or at the docks?
Julie Forshaw at British Divers Marine Life Rescue says the number one way people can protect the seals is by keeping their distance.
“When people see a seal pup on the beach they look so cute they want to have a selfie with it, let their dogs sniff it, they want to touch it or stroke it, and we sometimes even get kids throwing stones at them,” she says.

“This time of year, right through to about March, we get regular call-outs to pups, usually in West Kirby, Leasowe, Meols, New Brighton, up the Sefton coast and the Liverpool docks. Our most important job is to keep the public away.
“Sometimes, if the seal pups are on the beach and they don’t look ill, we’ll just literally draw a circle in the sand to isolate the area and try and keep everyone from getting too close because that only causes them more distress.
“We’ll watch them and generally wait for them to go back in the water on their own.
“Immature pups that look ill or too weak to look after themselves end up having to be rescued and taken to the RSPCA rehab centre in Nantwich which covers the whole of the North West and North Wales.”
Julie says well-meaning members of the public can sometimes cause more harm by trying to help.
“People can think that they’ve got to get a pup back in the water, so they might try to drag it, but seals are mammals and they spend the majority of their time out of the water so they’re fine on the beach.
“If they do try and touch the seal there’s a chance it will bite, and bite their dog too. If that happens the person would need to go to hospital and be given a special mix of antibiotics because otherwise infection can set in and they could lose their finger.
“The best thing everyone can do if they see a pup washed up is stay away, keep everyone else away, including dogs, and ring us at the BDMLR.”
If you spot a washed up seal pup call BDMLR ON 01825 765546 and they will dispatch trained Marine Mammal Medics to assist.

A tragicomic gig theatre show which weaves authentic stories to explore darkness and light in the emotionally complex world of fertility journeys.
As one of the more than 3.5 million people in the UK experiencing infertility, Kaya (and her husband) compiled funny and dark anecdotes for new show Scrambled Eggs as a way to process the experience. Sharing her story led to a profound connection with audiences and began a dialogue around infertility and childlessness. This work in progress at Liverpool’s Unity Theatre on 28th September explores involuntary and chosen childlessness, the impact of social pressure, and the pursuit of leaving a legacy. Scrambled Eggs uses live music, storytelling, physical theatre, humour, and visuals to explore joy, loss, isolation, and the perspective gained on the journey from grief to acceptance.
Kaya is the lead artist on the show, which is directed by Joanne Tremarco and produced by Sonia Chapman. The performance will also feature guest artists Beija Flo and Jazamin Sinclair.
Scrambled Eggs is about resilience and courage, playing the cards you are dealt, and forging your own path through life. This show will challenge fertility shame and stigma, and raise awareness, while still offering a good night out.

The 60 minute performance will be followed by a discussion and holding space for sharing, feedback and questions with the Scrambled Eggs team.
Originally conceived as a 10-minute stand-up comedy “lecture ” for The Secret Circus Christmas cabaret in 2021, Scrambled Eggs is in the process of growing into a full-length autobiographical theatre piece weaving in other people’s stories of childlessness and motherhood – chosen and involuntary.
Molly Dunlea, The Secret Circus host, said:
“Making this show happen will be monumental to those trying to conceive naturally and/or with IVF. Whether you’re at the start of your journey, ending it, thinking ahead or reflecting, this show is of great importance. Having seen the short scratch version, the open honestly mixed with art and humour is priceless and of great, great importance. A journey within an journey – incredible. Can’t wait to see a full show developed.”

Eve Howlett. Director of The Secret Circus, said:
“It was a privilege for Kaya to tell her story on the circus stage sharing some of her story for the first time. It was heartfelt, emotional but also comedic. The feedback from the audience was that it touched those who were going through similar paths in their life.”
Director Joanne Tremarco, who has 12 years experience working with taboo content in a way that is both raucous and sensitive – and who has also experienced the stigma of infertility herself – is thrilled to be working with Kaya to stage this work in progress.
She said:
“Kaya’s voice, humour and message are so powerful, I can’t wait to get into the theatre and start devising physically together. I will be making a cameo performance myself.”
Despite being turned down for Arts Council England funding three times – ironically echoing their three unsuccessful IVF attempts – the creators are determined to bring this show to life. To support the production, they have launched a crowdfunding campaign and are moving forward with a scaled-down, scratch/work-in-progress performance.

Kaya herself said:
“I have always used humour and songwriting to cope with challenges in life. We decided to go ahead and produce the show anyway because we have spent over a year developing the idea, and now it feels like the story needs to be told. The feedback from the scratch performance was overwhelmingly positive, and I can’t wait to share this with a wider audience. I was not aware how common fertility issues are until I opened up, and I am passionate about reducing stigma around it.”
The support, whether through ticket purchases or crowdfunding donations, will help cover production costs, including venue hire and the contributions to special guests and talented collaborators.
Sonia Chapman joined as producer for the show after seeing the monologue and has been key in driving the project forward; recruiting experienced director and artist Joanne Tremarco to the team.

Sonia said:
“Scrambled Eggs is more than just a performance; it’s a conversation about resilience, courage, and the emotional landscape of fertility journeys. Join us for a night of laughter, reflection, and connection.”
Scrambled Eggs: Work In Progress heads to the Unity Theatre in Liverpool on Saturday 28th September 2024. The Unity Theatre is a wheelchair accessible venue.
Please note that the performance will contain reference to infertility, pregnancy loss and mental health.

They’re as much of a part of the Plaza as fizzy drinks and popcorn – and the popular ‘80s Nights that have had people flocking into the Crosby community cinema since it reopened are celebrating their third birthday this weekend.
Organiser Nick Gartland is marking The Plaza Cinema’s anniversary with a showing of The Blues Brothers, the 1980 tale of redemption starring John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd on Saturday.
And he’s hoping the sell-out crowds that have been a huge part of the cinema’s rebirth will be back to toast the occasion.
“It’s a great film from the ‘80s era and one of the few we haven’t done,” says Nick. “And it seemed like a good one to celebrate our third birthday.
“It’s been such a journey along the way – and little did I know that when I started the Plaza ‘80s Nights in 2021, that they’d be still going strong now.”

Nick, 49, moved to the Crosby and Waterloo area in 1987 and the Plaza – although then with a different name – was the cinema he went to. He even worked there during the 1990s when it was the Apollo.
He was one of the volunteers who happily got his paintbrush out when it reopened as a community cinema, following a short closure, in 1997.
And, although by day Nick works as an SQL server database administrator, he is also a DJ who decided to launch the series of ‘80s Nights to ensure the cinema continued to attract a good audience. “And it turned out they were more popular than I had even hoped.”
There have been 15 over the last few years showing films like The Breakfast Club, The Goonies, The Lost Boys, and Rocky IV, and many sold out: “The Plaza main screen holds around 500 people, so they’ve done really well,” says Nick. “It’s a way of getting people into the cinema who might not consider going there and it’s just a really good night out.”
As people gather for drinks at the bar, Nick performs a music set before the audience sits back to enjoy the film. “People get up and have a sing and a dance and so they’re really upbeat when the film kicks off and they get really involved in it, cheering and clapping.

“People come in fancy dress and there’s always an amazing atmosphere,” he says. “When I was younger I loved the classic films of the ‘80s, I grew up with them. I think everybody loves them because they’ve got great soundtracks and the films just didn’t take themselves too seriously. They have a massive place in people’s hearts.”
The birthday celebrations will be followed by horror delights on Saturday, October 26, when Nick will perform a Halloween-themed set and the cinema will show A Nightmare on Elm Street, and there’ll be prizes for the best fancy dress.
Because that’s an 18-Certificate, the Plaza is also holding a Halloween Family Special on Thursday, October 31, with The Nightmare Before Christmas, again with Nick delivering a Halloween set and a fancy dress competition.
There are plans for a Christmas event and Nick has teased about a ‘very special event’ that he’s preparing for February 1 next year.
“I didn’t think I’d get to a third year and here I am planning a fourth,” he smiles, “so there’s lots to look forward to.
“I just want to keeping building on what I do and what I know, and I just want people to enjoy themselves. I want to show that the Plaza is for everyone, and all ages.”
