Liverpool FC has announced that it will freeze general admission and season ticket prices for the 2025/26 season, ensuring stability for supporters amidst rising costs in football operations.

Liverpool FC made the decision following meaningful engagement with its official Supporters Board, acknowledging their significant contributions to discussions around ticket pricing.

As well as adult prices remaining the same, junior tickets will also continue to be frozen at £9 for the tenth season in a row, and are the same price as local tickets, which have been available to those with a Liverpool postcode since the 2016-17 season.

The latest price freeze comes despite significant increases in Anfield matchday operating costs and continued rises in the cost of football operations in general.

Alongside meaningful engagement with the Supporters Board, a survey was sent out to 500,000 LFC supporters last October, using the club’s ticketing database, asking for their views on a number of ticketing related topics.

Over 62,000 fans responded and access to tickets and the online purchasing process were highlighted as the primary concerns by the majority of supporters.

The club will therefore start discussions with its Supporters Board on developing a range of ticketing policy changes during next season and beyond.

These changes will be in line with the club’s updated ticketing principles, which were created in consultation with the Supporters Board, and can be viewed in full here.

The policies include the ambition to make ticket access a realistic goal for all supporters while also recognising loyalty, with transparent data, protection against misuse and a long-term pricing approach.

The 2025-26 general admission season ticket renewal period will open in March, further details will be sent to season ticket holders in due course.

Two breathtaking immersive art experiences are coming to Liverpool this summer, and tickets are now on general sale.

Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience and the UK premiere of Beyond Monet will take over Exhibition Centre Liverpool from Tuesday 15 July – Sunday 3 August, offering visitors a journey into the worlds of two of history’s most celebrated artists.

Beyond Van Gogh and Beyond Monet will be staged on different days throughout the three-week run at the landmark waterfront venue.

Both shows went on pre-sale on Valentine’s Day, and Liverpool has already shown lots of love for the artists’ stunning work with almost 5,000 entry tickets snapped up over the weekend.

There are a range of entry options including, new for 2025, special family ticket and ‘parent and child’ tickets which offer great savings on individual prices.

Produced by Annerin Productions and Paquin Entertainment Group, Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience brings together more than 300 of the post-Impressionist icon’s paintings blended with cutting-edge technology and a specially curated musical soundtrack to tell the story of one of history’s most influential artists, with people able to wander through iconic works – including The Starry NightSunflowers and Terrace of a Café at Night – as they came alive around them.

The UK premiere in Liverpool last summer attracted 60,000 visitors. Meanwhile exciting new features for 2025 will to be revealed in the coming weeks.

Beyond Monet: The Immersive Experience has been seen by thousands of people at venues across North America, and now it is coming to the UK, following in Beyond Van Gogh’s footsteps by being premiered in Liverpool.

In the immersive impressionist extravaganza, cutting-edge technology breathes new life into more than 400 of the legendary French painter’s artworks, taking visitors on a spectacular and unforgettable audio-visual journey through his captivating and colourful world.

Beyond Monet brings together some of the artist’s most famous canvases – including PoppiesImpression: Sunrise and his exquisite Water Lilies series – with lesser-known works which all swirl around the space, offering a fresh and exciting new look at much-loved masterpieces and a deeper connection with Monet, his subjects and his innovative technique.

Taking inspiration from Musée de l’Orangerie in Paris, the designated home of Monet’s works, visitors can freely roam the Infinity Room where they are transported inside the paintings themselves to the accompaniment of a moving original score.

While Van Gogh and Monet had different approaches to their artistic practice, during the last decades of the 19th Century they were also contemporaries and pairing them in two complementary experiences allows art lovers the chance to not only enjoy their work but also to consider it in a wider context.

And if both artists’ work is now well-known and widely celebrated, they were both pioneers in their time.

Art Historian Fanny Curtat, who acted as a consultant on both immersive shows, describes the artists “capturing a moment in time”, with Van Gogh “painting what he feels and what her perceives” and Monet “painting an atmosphere.”

Anna Parry, UK Business Development at Annerin Productions, said:

“I’m really excited to bring Beyond Van Gogh and Beyond Monet together in Liverpool this summer – and if the fantastic response since we announced the 2025 dates last week is anything to go by, it seems Liverpool art lovers are too.

“Timed entry tickets are already being snapped up for both experiences. It’s clear people can’t wait to immerse themselves in Monet’s exquisite impressionist world or to explore Van Gogh’s extraordinary catalogue of works, and I can promise visitors to Exhibition Centre Liverpool a truly memorable experience this summer.”

As a City famous for our musical heritage and current musical talent pool, it makes perfect sense that this year’s Northern Music Awards – sponsored by Nordoff and Robbins – is being hosted right here in Liverpool. On the 27th March, the iconic Liverpool Olympia is the destination for the 2025 celebration of “The North’s very best artists, festivals, venues and industry figures”

This will be a night to remember, and – as Media Partners – The Guide Liverpool will proudly be showcasing the celebrations and recognition of the rising stars and established acts who make up the vibrant northern music scene. Watch our chat with BBC 6 Music Presenter and event host Chris Hawkins here.

And, there are a whole HOST of other wonderful award ceremonies and celebrations across this year that we’ll be attending and enjoying – and, even hosting! The Guide Liverpool will once again partnering with the prestigious LCR Tourism Awards later this month, as well as the Liverpool Hospitality People Awards in June, the Chester Hospitality Awards in July and the Cheshire Life Food & Drink Awards coming in summer, also the Merseyside Independent Business Awards, which takes place annually in October.

We’re proud to be part of these recognition focussed events for the people, the businesses and the destinations that make our city region GREAT. You’ll also spot us cheering on nominees and winners alike at the Downtown Women In Business in March and the Liverpool Chamber Business Innovation Awards.

Who knows, we might even give out some awards ourselves later in the year (wink face emoji!)

Radio 1 is coming

Where were you, when Greg James announced LIVERPOOL as the destination for the stations’ biggest live music event?!

We’re still not over the news that Sefton Park will play host to 3 days of live music this May for BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend – with the likes of Sam Fender, Myles Smith, Lola Young, Wet Leg and local band: Blossoms taking to the stage to perform.

The Guide Liverpool is no stranger to being a part of the major musical moments, events and festivals to grace our city region. We’ve worked closely with the BBC before, for extensive (and award winning!) coverage of Eurovision 2023. Similarly, we’ve proudly collaborated with LIMF, Africa Oye, On the Waterfront and many more event organisers in recent years to bring the festival ‘to you’ through our video content & campaigns.

The Big Weekend will be no exception for The Guide as we plan to bring you all of the build up, and who knows, we might even blag ourselves a ticket to bring you some coverage too!

Over the coming weeks, more artists are to be announced for what is no doubt going to be one of the most memorable music celebrations to take over Sefton Park in recent years and we’ll keep you updated on performances, ticket information and what to expect in May.

City of Music

Bruce Springsteen - Anfield
Bruce Springsteen – Anfield

Music is in our blood, here in Liverpool. We’re a city of passionate music fans and we LOVE to see our favourite artists perform live in our hometown.

Sometimes, these performances take place against backdrops you’d not normally expect – and that’s where we come in!

From football to fabulousness: The Guide Liverpool will once again be working with LFC to showcase all of the build up to their June 2025 concerts dates as Dua Lipa, Lana Del Ray, Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel bring an eclectic mix of musical magic and excitement to ‘the pitch’ at Anfield.

Then, we’ll be moving from Anfield to the Mersey in June, as our world-famous waterfront (which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site) becomes the setting for On the Waterfront again.

This 4-day musical celebration transforms the Pier Head and is set to bring a real variety of live music to the City across this June weekend courtesy of The Wombats, The Wolf Tones, Cream Classical Ibiza – closing out with a performance from the legend: Sting!

Add to that Billy Ocean and Ocean Colour Scene at Booth’s new venue, Salt & Tar. Plus Kylie, Bryan Adams and Diana Ross at Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena, and you have a lineup shining brighter than a Glastonbury Pyramid Stage.

For The Guide Liverpool, we will continue to bring you all of the latest as gates get set to open, from the testing-events to the reaction fans as they visit their new home for the first time.

Of course, all these events will undoubtedly keep us busy, but we never forget about the everyday magical hustle and bustle that makes Liverpool so special.

Liverpool has once again been awarded Purple Flag status, marking the 15th year in a row that the city has been recognised for its safe and thriving night-time economy.

Purple Flag Status highlights the Liverpool’s commitment to being one of the UK’s safest night-time economies, where residents and visitors can enjoy a secure and vibrant nightlife experience. It is one of only a handful of cities that has retained the status since 2010.

Run by the Association of Town and City Management (ATCM), the Purple Flag scheme recognises places that have a dynamic, secure, and vibrant evening and night-time economy, similar to a Green Flag for parks, or Blue Flag for beaches.

The prestigious award highlights Liverpool’s diverse range of entertainment, dining and culture throughout the night, as well as its commitment to the welfare and safety of visitors and residents.

The report from ATCM praised the city for its range of local and high-end venues, and its ‘iconic and unique appearance and reputation’. The wellbeing of visitors was also rated highly, with strong partnerships between the Council, Liverpool One, Merseyside Police, Liverpool BID and students’ groups contributing to a welcoming, clean, and safe night-time environment.

People’s safety is a priority for Liverpool City Council, who work closely with the police to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour on the streets. In 2024, the Council’s CCTV network helped to deal with over 3,000 incidents, including assaults, thefts, and criminal damage.

There are over 80 Purple Flag destinations around the globe across the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Malta, New Zealand and Australia.

Recently, Liverpool’s Purple Flag status attracted delegates from the Asia branch of the International Festivals and Events Association (IFEA) to the city.

More than thirty IFEA members toured the city in December to learn about its thriving nightlife and are hoping to use this knowledge to apply for Purple Flag status in Asian cities for the first time.

In April, Liverpool City Council and partners will officially accept the title at a special event.

Councillor Laura Robertson-Collins, Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Neighbourhoods and Streetscene said:

“I am delighted that Liverpool has once again been recognised for its outstanding night-time economy.

“Our excellent nightlife here in the city is no secret, and we’re proud that Liverpool is seen as an exciting, engaging, and safe place for people to visit.

“This accreditation is down to all the hard work from our staff and partners across the city, who work incredibly hard every single day to make sure that the city remains a great place to live in and come to.”

Shaun Holland, Director of Operations at Liverpool BID Company said:

“I am delighted that Liverpool has once again been awarded Purple Flag status. The tireless work that takes place between partners in the city, the night-time venues and community are reflected in this welcomed recognition.

“Liverpool is recognised nationally as one of the best and safest places to visit for a memorable night or weekend experience. We are blessed in Liverpool to have great people who work and live here.

“Visitors are warmly welcomed and encouraged to explore and experience all the wonderful sights, sounds, hospitality and food outlets enriching their experience.”

Emily Spurrell, Merseyside’s Police Commissioner, said:

“I’m delighted that Liverpool has retained its Purple Flag for the fifteenth year running. To be awarded this status once again only serves to reaffirm what we already know that our city is a safe and welcoming place for people to visit from all walks of life.

“Millions of visitors, from near and far, come to our city each year to see our iconic buildings and landmarks, whilst enjoying a safe night out in our many pubs, bars, clubs and restaurants, so it is fantastic to see this being recognised, once again, on a national level by a team of independent assessors.

“The Purple Flag status is testament to those who work tirelessly to keep our nighttime economy safe and inclusive, and my thanks go to Merseyside Police and Liverpool City Council, who are committed, with the support of our partner agencies, to deliver a comprehensive and proactive plan to ensure the city centre is a place for people of all ages, interests and backgrounds to enjoy.

“The safety of our residents and visitors is always our number one priority and whilst the retention of this status gives reason to celebrate, we remain wholly focussed on getting even better at what we are doing, to ensure that Liverpool continues to be the best place in the UK to come for a night out, for many years to come.”

Residents have launched a campaign to try to keep the former I.M. Marsh campus in south Liverpool as a community hub for sports.

The I.M. Marsh campus on Barkhill Road, which is owned by John Moores University, has been closed since 2021 when sports and education faculties based there were moved to the city centre.

Plans were drawn up soon afterwards which included around 200 homes, a new park and new cycle paths, but in 2022 the university announced it would be retaining its “valuable asset.”

Now Mossley Hill Residents Association is concerned that the land could be considered again for housing development.

And it has launched a petition in an effort to show how strongly local people feel about not losing the site which has been linked to sport for over a century.

The petition highlights the opportunities I.M. Marsh has given thousands of people to stay active, adding: “For generations, I.M. Marsh Campus has been at the heart of our community, a place where sport, education, and community life have thrived together.”

It goes on to say that building housing on the land, would result in increased traffic congestion, pressure on services and the loss of sports facilities, having “a lasting detrimental impact on our area.”

Dave Thomas, chairman of Mossley Hill Residents Association, says he hopes the petition: “will show the groundswell of opinion among residents which is they want to keep it.

“At this stage no-one’s saying it is going to be a residential development but we want to make it clear we don’t want it to be.

The entrance to the former I.M Marsh campus on Barkhill Road
The entrance to the former I.M. Marsh campus on Barkhill Road

“We really want it to be a sports complex for everyone to use and enjoy. It’s something that could benefit the whole of this area so it can’t be lost for the community.

“I speak to so many people and when I tell them about I.M. Marsh, they’ll say ‘I did trampolining there’ or football or hockey. It has so many decades of history and they want their children to enjoy that as well but that’s what we’d be losing.

“It’s important that LJMU know this is the feeling and we get local voices heard. If the old Carnatic Halls on North Mossley Hill Road does become housing that’s only half a mile away from this site and Barkhill Road just can’t cope with another residential development.”

In addition to JMU and the city council, Dave has been in contact with Sport England on behalf of the residents’ association to make the organisation aware of local worries.

“They would make the decision as to whether LJMU would be allowed to sell that site for housing,” he explains.  “Sport England are impartial so we have no idea which way that final decision would go but we do know they are very good at retaining playing fields, they have a very high success rate.

“We believe Irene Mabel Marsh, who was a pioneer in physical education especially for girls, left that site to be used for sport and dance, not for homes.

“We want her sports legacy to continue, for students and for local people, and Mossley Hill ceases to be Mossley Hill if you have new developments on every corner.”

You can sign the petition here.

Piling works in the river, demolition works on land and welding in warehouses… it’s all go on the Woodside Ferry Terminal regeneration scheme at the start of 2025!

It took five days to install two piles eight metres into the Mersey’s riverbed, using a barge with specialist drilling equipment. Made of steel and painted with water resistant coatings, the piles are two metres in diameter and 35 metres tall – as high as the North Stand at Everton’s new stadium. The piles at Woodside Ferry Terminal will allow the new landing stage to move up and down with the tide, with minimal sideways movement. They also remove the need for a connecting boom and chains and anchors, reducing the level of maintenance required.

Sections of the new 52-metre-long landing stage pontoon are being constructed in a warehouse in Liverpool, prior to them being welded together at Huskisson Dock before they are transported across the river and attached to the new piles.

Passers-by will also have noticed the ticket office has been demolished and will be replaced with a new modern facility.

These works all follow-on from the removal of the 39-year-old landing stage, 110-tonne linkspan bridge and 45 tonne connecting boom in November last year.

The £9m plus investment will help secure the long-term viability of the important cultural asset as part of a major regeneration project to transform the area into a ‘vibrant and unique waterfront destination’ led by Wirral Council and Liverpool City Region Combined Authority

Woodside Ferry Terminal Refurbishment

Councillor Steve Foulkes, Chair of the Transport Committee, said:

“I’m delighted to see how much progress has already been made on the Woodside Ferry Terminal revamp after the removal of the old structures back in November.

“This a major engineering project which our team is delivering alongside our partners, to make sure services can return to Woodside as soon as possible.

“We’re really pleased to be playing our part alongside Wirral Council in the transformative regeneration that will be taking place over the next few years.

“Alongside our plans for a new ferry, these works highlight our commitment to the Mersey Ferries and their importance as a much-beloved cultural asset for our city region.”

Woodside Ferry Terminal Refurbishment

Cllr Paul Stuart, Leader of Wirral Council, said:

“Woodside Ferry Terminal is a cornerstone of our ambitious regeneration programme for Birkenhead and Wirral.

“It’s fantastic to witness the significant progress on the ferry terminal. Mersey Ferries are not just a mode of transport; they are a symbol of our rich maritime heritage.

“The investment and broader plans for the Woodside area are bringing about a remarkable transformation, revitalising our waterfront and creating a vibrant, thriving community for years to come.”

The regeneration scheme is being made possible by Levelling Up Funding from Wirral Council, which in 2024 consulted on a Masterplan to breathe new life into the area at the heart of which sits the £20m plus Woodside infrastructure and active travel project to connect the Woodside Waterfront with Birkenhead Town Centre.

The Woodside Masterplan proposals include a vision for 1,700 homes, two new hotels, a major cultural attraction and an outside event space wrapping around the Ferry Terminal building.

The new landing stage and linkspan bridge is due for completion in summer 2025 and follows the multi-million-pound refurbishment of Seacombe Ferry Terminal, which reopened in 2022.

The upgraded terminals will be ready to welcome the new £26m Mersey Ferry due to be launched by the summer of 2026.

A local Liverpool charity is making a big impact with a brand-new eco-friendly initiative aimed at tackling food poverty, food waste, and plastic pollution.

St Andrew’s Community Network officially launched Re.Filled earlier this month, a low-waste refill project designed to help families access essential food and household items at a much lower cost than supermarkets, while also reducing single-use plastic waste.

Re.Filled offers food staples like pasta, rice and cereal as well as household essentials at an affordable cost, helping families and households across Liverpool access the essentials they need as costs in supermarkets remain high.

The eco-friendly, low-waste model encourages members to bring their own reusable containers to refill each time they attend a session, reducing single-use and disposable plastic as well as food waste with people just taking the amount of each item they need for the week. Currently priced at just £3 for 10 items, Re.Filled offers a different option for people and also opens the door to further support if needed.

St Andrew’s Community Network, who have been working to support their communities for over 20 years, also offer other services as they work to set people free from poverty. Their team of debt and welfare benefits advisors provide free, impartial and confidential advice to anyone struggling, and they also coordinate North Liverpool Foodbank in partnership with Trussell, running nine centres across the North of the city.

Charlotte, Development Lead at St Andrew’s Community Network, said:

“We’re so excited to officially launch Re.Filled! It’s been in the making for nearly a year, and to see everything come together and work so well is incredible. With the cost-of-living crisis continuing to impact our communities, the support we can offer to people is vital and Re.Filled is another way we can help ensure people are able to put food on the table, as well as access the advice and support they need while they’re here.”

Charlotte added:

“One of the great things about it is that the space is completely member-led. We’re constantly asking for feedback on the items available and how the initiative runs from members, and we definitely take this on board. So if everyone says they don’t like the coffee, then we’ll get a different one! Re.Filled is really flexible – it’s about giving our community the support they need whilst also focusing on improving our local environment. We’d love to chat to anyone who’s interested in joining.”

Re.Filled is open to everyone and runs every Tuesday morning from 10am-12pm at the Network’s offices in 16 Larkhill Lane, Clubmoor, L13 9BR. You can contact the Network by calling 0151 226 3406 or emailing media@standrewslive.org.uk.

Liverpool has been home to some truly iconic couples.

This Valentine’s Day, we’re celebrating some of Liverpool’s most famous love stories, from rock ‘n’ roll romance to footballing fairytales and even a couple of legendary Liver Birds.

John Lennon & Yoko Ono

Few love stories have been as famous, creative, and controversial as that of John and Yoko. The Beatle and the avant-garde artist first met in 1966 at Ono’s London art exhibition, and their relationship became one of the most talked-about in music history.

Yoko was often blamed for The Beatles’ breakup, but in reality, she and John shared an unbreakable bond, using their platform for peace activism and artistic collaborations.

Their famous Bed-In for Peace in 1969 remains one of the most iconic protests of all time. Though their time together was tragically cut short, their love story is still talked about to this day.

Wayne & Coleen Rooney

The pair met as teenagers in Croxteth and have been together ever since, navigating life in the spotlight with unwavering loyalty.

From Wayne’s rise to football superstardom to Coleen’s career as a fashion icon and the unforgettable Wagatha Christie saga, the Rooneys have built a family while constantly making the headlines.

Through ups and downs, they’ve remained one of Liverpool’s most talked-about couples, proving that first loves can last a lifetime.

Bella & Bertie – The love that watches over Liverpool

Liver Birds
Liver Birds

No list of iconic Liverpool couples would be complete without our Bella and Bertie – the Liver Birds who have stood proudly atop the Royal Liver Building for over a century.

Legend has it that Bertie looks over the city, protecting the people of Liverpool, while Bella watches over the River Mersey, keeping the sailors safe.

However we all know that Bella is looking out to see for a sailor and Bertie is looking to see if the pubs are open!

Local folklore even claims that if the two birds were to ever face each other, Liverpool would fall!

These legends have stood side by side through it all, proving that sometimes, love is just about being there for each other – always.

Tin Head & Emily O’Leary – Brookside’s unforgettable romance

For Brookside fans, Tin Head (Tim O’Leary) and Emily O’Leary were the ultimate love-against-the-odds couple. Played by Philip Olivier and Jennifer Ellison, the pair were at the centre of one of the soap’s most emotional and tragic love stories.

Tin Head was the tough-but-loyal Scouser who fell for Emily, and despite their struggles, they became one of the most beloved couples on the Close.

Their relationship was filled with ups and downs, ending when Emily was killed off during the siege of Brookside Close in 2002. Love stories don’t always have fairy-tale endings, but we will always remember this one from Brookie.

Steven & Alex Gerrard

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard isn’t just one of the greatest footballers the city has ever produced – he’s also part of one of its most iconic couples.

Steven met Alex Curran when they were both in their teens, and their relationship has stood the test of time through Gerrard’s incredible footballing career, including that unforgettable Champions League final in 2005.

Now, with a family and a career in football management, Steven and Alex remain one of Liverpool’s power couples, proving that love, like football, is all about teamwork.

Kenny & Marina Dalglish

If football is a religion in Liverpool, then Kenny and Marina Dalglish are its royal couple. The Liverpool FC legend and his wife of over 50 years have shared a life of incredible highs and challenging lows, always supporting each other with unwavering strength.

Marina’s work with the Marina Dalglish Appeal, which raises money for cancer care, is as inspiring as Kenny’s impact on Liverpool’s football legacy. Together, they show that the strongest love stories aren’t just about the good times but about standing together through everything.

Leon & June Bernicoff – Gogglebox’s most iconic couple

Leon and June Bernicoff became national treasures thanks to their time on Gogglebox, where their humour and clear devotion to each other made them instant fan favourites.

Having met in Liverpool in the 1950s, they were married for over 60 years, sharing a love story filled with laughter, loyalty, and a little bit of bickering.

Leon’s passing in 2017, and June’s in 2020, was a huge loss, but their love lives on in every repeated episode showing their hilarious Gogglebox moments.

Liverpool’s king of comedy, Sir Ken Dodd, may have been known for his tickling sticks and outrageous one-liners, but his greatest love was always Lady Anne.

The pair were together for over 40 years before finally tying the knot just days before Ken’s passing in 2018.

Their relationship was built on laughter making them one of Liverpool’s most cherished couples. Lady Dodd is one of the Trustees of the Ken Dodd Charitable Foundation, which works to support performing arts charities and organisations. In the past six years, the Foundation has made over 50 donations to more than 30 charities, many of which are based in Liverpool and Merseyside.

In January 2025 Anne was awarded the prestigious Roll of Citizen of Honour by Liverpool City Council.

The Kindness Rocks event at the Bombed Out Church this weekend will bring together 400 scarves created by Liverpool knitters for homeless people.

Kindness Rocks was the idea of local author Sheryl Webster, who was inspired by a similar project in New York.

She wanted to show that even the smallest act of kindness can make a big difference by giving each homeless person what she calls ‘a warm hug in wool’.

“In New York they have something called Found But Not Lost, held in Bryant Park, where they put scarves out and let the homeless community just come and take them,” Sheryl explains.

“I loved that idea, but safeguarding issues mean it’s not as simple as that here, so we decided to do our own version.

“At first I reached out to a couple of local knitting groups, including Knit and Natter at The Reader in Calderstones Park. They passed it on to other groups to get involved and it spread all over the city.

“When I started in June 2023, I thought I’d be lucky if I got 50 scarves, but now we’re actually around 400. It’s been phenomenal.”

In addition to the knitters who supported Kindness Rocks, Sheryl invited pupils from Liverpool College to write kindness tags to go with the scarves.

“I went to talk to Year 5 children about kindness and I gave them a few ideas about the sort of words that would make someone experiencing homelessness feel a bit more positive,” she says.

“A lot of the messages they wrote are really heartfelt, saying things like ‘keep it going’ and ‘don’t give up’, ‘you’ve got this’ and ‘you’re boss’ which is so Liverpool.

“Some children drew a rainbow or a sun, because they said they were the things that made them feel happy, so that was their own personal take.”

For Sheryl, who lives in south Liverpool, Kindness Rocks is the second project she’s organised to help the homeless.

She’s also gone into schools with Rock Your Socks, encouraging children to donate thousands of pairs of brand new socks to be given out to those in need.

This Saturday, February 15, all the scarves and handmade tags will be on display at the Bombed Out Church as a thank you to everyone who took part in the big knit.

There’ll be free children’s activities throughout the day, with live music and book readings 11am–11.30am and 2pm-2.30pm. They’ll include a reading by Sheryl of her Kindness Rocks book for 4-8 year-olds, and a performance by her 20-year-old singer-songwriter daughter Bethany.

“Then next week me and my youngest daughter Katy, who’s done a lot of work with me on this, will go to the Whitechapel Centre to hand over lots of the scarves,” says Sheryl.

“We’re also going to take some to Paper Cup Coffee because I’ve given them socks before and as quickly as they put them out, they’re taken by their homeless regulars so I know how much something warm is really appreciated.”

A new national pilot aimed at transforming work experience for schoolchildren is set to launch in the Liverpool City Region.

The equalex pilot will introduce a fresh approach, replacing the traditional two-week block work experience with a flexible, multi-experience model that spans 10 days throughout a student’s secondary education.

The goal is to provide more meaningful, varied, and skills-focused experiences to help young people prepare for their future careers.

Several prominent city region employers – including Jaguar Land Rover, Knowledge Quarter Liverpool, NHS England, Atkins Realis, Keepmoat, Kimpton and Unilever – are interested in supporting the pilot, along with small and medium-sized businesses, and 12 schools.

The work experiences will be aimed at filling skills gaps and equipping local children for tech jobs in the city region’s pioneering Life Sciences Innovation Zone.

The pilot is one of four across England, each testing a different part of the new model, before the project is scaled up to allow for national roll-out.

Mayor of the Liverpool City Region Steve Rotheram said:

“Work experience is a vital part of a young person’s education, helping to equip them with the knowledge, confidence, and skills they need for their future careers.

“But for too long, too many pupils have missed out on meaningful opportunities – leaving them at a disadvantage when they take their first steps into the world of work. That has to change.

“I’m delighted that our region has been chosen to help lead the way on this innovative pilot. By giving schoolchildren real experience in some of our fastest-growing industries – like tech and our expanding Life Sciences Innovation Zone – we’re not just equipping them with the skills for the jobs of the future, we’re making sure those opportunities are open to everyone, no matter their background.”

The government removed statutory requirement for schools to deliver work experience in England in 2012.

Since then, schools have struggled to prioritise placements and participation levels have dropped. It is accepted across the sector that only about 50% of young people have work experience.

The equalex pilot has been developed by The Careers and Enterprise Company (CEC), the national body for careers education, and supported by Careers Hubs. It is a multi-year, multi-experience model supported by the curriculum and open to all learners.

The tiered approach provides a breadth and depth of workplace experiences totalling ten days throughout secondary education. The pilot is one of four national trials – including Greater Manchester, West Midlands and West Yorkshire – with each testing a separate aspect.

In the city region, the initiative will target the key growth sectors of Advanced Manufacturing, Digital and Creative, and Health and Life Sciences.

It will run in partnership with the LCR Careers Hub at no cost to the schools involved.

Modern work experience should be  flexible in terms of length and will run across Key Stage 3 and 4. Key stage 3 covers the first three years of secondary school, while Key Stage 4 covers the final two years.

This will give students the chance to make informed choices and gain work experience before and after making GCSE options

The project will also examine the challenges faced by employers in providing work experience and look for ways to support and inspire businesses to take part.

Oli de Botton, CEO of The Careers & Enterprise Company said:

“We are thrilled to be working with the Liverpool City Region to launch a new work experience pilot for young people in the area. The approach means that learners from ages 11-14 will access the region’s fast-growing industries over 10 days’ worth of high-quality experiences. Our goal is to ensure that all young people, particularly those who are currently missing out, can gain the experiences that help them get ready to thrive in the future.”

Clockworks in Wolstenholme Square officially launches its brand-new restaurant in time for Valentine’s Day weekend.

After reopening the popular Clockworks bar in late December 2024, three young entrepreneurs – Rhys Keeley, Jack Ruttledge, and Ethan Cowling – are now bringing a premium steak-focused menu to the historic venue.

One of the Clockworks Directors, Jack Ruttledge said:

“We are pleased to announce the opening of our restaurant at Clockworks. It has been a busy time for us, first opening the bar in late December and since then working on opening the restaurant side of the business.

“We are going to be focusing on premium steak cuts, including both Wagyu and Black Angus, sourced from trusted local suppliers. Dishes available from our launch on Friday 14 February include 48 Hour marinated Black Angus Fillet, Ribeye and Sirloin, T-Bone and Tomahawk all served with charred on the vine tomatoes, wild flat mushrooms and house dressed rocket & watercress finished with Parmesan shavings.

Clockworks reopened in number 11 Wolstenholme Square in late December after a stunning refurbishment.

Set in an 18th-century merchant house where Parr Street opens out into the rejuvenated Square, the interior of Clockworks celebrates its industrial heritage with original features like exposed iron pipes and brickwork, while modern updates, such as sleek new flooring, warm lighting installations and luxurious marble bathrooms elevate the space.

Ethan Cowling added:

“We have recruited a great team of  award winning chefs and are so excited to now have the restaurant side of the business ready to launch. The bar side of the business has been growing each week since we opened 6 weeks ago and now we look forward to operating fully as a bar & restaurant.”

Wolstenholme Square has seen much change over the last few years with a lot of investment injected into the area with several new high rise apartment blocks built, including on the site of the old Cream superclub.

Rhys Keeley adds:

“We wanted to have our restaurant arm of the business open in time for Valentine’s Day and our team of Chefs have worked tirelessly to get us open.

Now, thanks to the new X4 Express Bus linking Runcorn to Liverpool city centre, it’s not just convenient and great value, it’s quick too!

The X4 is a limited stop route which means it covers the journey from Runcorn High Street to Liverpool ONE in around 50 minutes.

And instead of having to concentrate on negotiating your way through traffic, you can spend that time sitting back, relaxing and maybe reading a book or scrolling through socials, so you get to where you’re going without the hassle.

The new Arriva express service runs Monday to Saturday, from early morning until late at night – the last bus leaves Liverpool ONE just after midnight, on weekdays and Saturdays.

If you’re in the mood to shop, get off at Runcorn Shopping City or Widnes Green Oaks to visit Widnes Market and go in search of a bargain, or Speke Boulevard for New Mersey Retail Park where you’ll find big fashion names like Next, H&M, River Island and New Look, and a huge choice of sports brands at JD, Footasylum and Sports Direct.

There’s also a Cineworld to catch all the latest film releases, and you can grab a bite to eat before or after the screening at places including Nando’s, Wagamama and Pizza Hut.

Heading through Aigburth, Jericho Lane takes you down to Otterspool for a walk along the river, or make your way into Sefton Park to wander around the lake and Palm House before hitting all the indie shops, galleries, coffee shops, restaurants and bars along Lark Lane.

The X4 is also handy for exploring the Baltic Triangle, with its amazing street art and great venues like Baltic Market, Red Brick Market, BOXPARK and Camp & Furnace, as well as everything that Liverpool ONE, Liverpool city centre and the waterfront have got to offer.

It costs just £2 per single fare so it’s really good value when you factor in everything you’re likely to save on petrol and parking.

All buses on the X4 route are fully accessible and modern so you can make the journey in comfort, and because you’re minus the car, you don’t have to worry about finding somewhere to park once you get there.

Residents in Merseyside are being urged to stay extra vigilant when using ATMs after skimming devices, which criminals use to steal cash and account details, were discovered at several cash machines across the region.

There has been a rise in reports of ATM fraud, particularly in St Helens, with police seizing devices in key locations.

On Wednesday 12 February, there were reports of skimming devices being found at ATMs at Four Acre Lane in Clock Face and Liverpool Road in Formby and the equipment was seized for forensic examination.

On 27 January, a skimming device was recovered from a bank ATM on Allerton Road.

Detective Inspector Paul Gillies said:

“We are investigating reports of ATM machines that have been tampered with and now want to raise awareness to our communities.”

“The reports have caused concern as the ATM tampering has also seen in other forces in the UK.

“It is important that users of ATMs remain vigilant and look out for the signs that an ATM they are using may have been targeted in this way.

“It’s always a good idea to scan the area around ATMs before you use them particularly where the card goes into the machine.

“Be aware of anyone standing close by and always check the machine to see if it may have been tampered with before you use it.

“If thieves are operating close by, they will watch as you key in your PIN or distract you while you’re withdrawing cash. So remember to cover your PIN and keep an eye on your card at all times. If someone taps you on the shoulder or tries to speak to you, just ignore them.

“Look out for unusual and unexpected devices attached to the machine – some are more obvious than others – and if you do see something suspicious, please contact the police and the bank so that action can be taken to protect customers.

“Remember, if it doesn’t look or feel right then steer clear and, if possible, go inside the bank where it will be safer. And always keep a regular check on your transactions.

“When you’ve left the ATM, put your card away immediately.”

Should any devices be found, please either report to : https://reporting.actionfraud.police.uk or call 101.
