Passenger reviews put Liverpool John Lennon Airport in the running for a national Which? award

Positive feedback from passengers has put Liverpool John Lennon Airport in the running for a national Which? travel award.

LJLA is the only UK airport to make the shortlist to become Which? Travel Brand of the Year.

The prestigious annual awards recognise the brands that consistently provide consumers with the highest quality products and services, and that includes their travel experience.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport was shortlisted thanks to high customer scores it received, particularly for excellent security, well managed bag drop queues, and its great staff.

The airport has already been ranked as number one for the second consecutive year in the UK in Which?’s independent Best and Worst Airports survey.

Head of PR and Communications at LJLA, Robin Tudor, says even making it into the top 5 in the travel brand award is an achievement in its own right.

He said:

“We are the only UK airport to be shortlisted which is fantastic but also this is Which?’s Travel Brand of the Year so it encompasses a host of businesses in the wider travel industry,” says Robin.

“We’re up against some big national brands so just to make the shortlist is something we’re really proud of.

“This isn’t about a panel of judges coming and looking at the airport, this is feedback from customers, either good or bad if their experience doesn’t live up to expectations.

“It’s an independent survey, we have no control over it, so for us to get such high scores in various different areas is testament to the work we’ve put in and shows passengers do appreciate what we’ve been doing.”

Other travel-related companies listed are airline Jet2, Trailfinders, Zest car rental and Saga Ocean cruises. The winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on May 21.

Robin says the airport is especially delighted to have its staff and operations highlighted for praise.

“Clearly Which? has had feedback from customers on what the airport’s all about. We know our staff are one of our big selling points and a huge asset for us because people often comment on that friendly approachable demeanour we like to welcome all passengers to the airport with. 

“In addition to our staff, we scored highly for excellent security, getting through speedily and efficiently, which is very much a part of what we do and one of the things people tell us they love, and also well-managed bag drop queues, so it’s the full experience.

“That’s what we strive for, to give people the best possible experience as they go through the airport, and it’s something that we’ve become known for.

“Yes we’ve got some great destinations but it’s about giving people more and making Liverpool their preferred choice when they fly which is what we’ve been achieving in recent years.”

Robin confirmed that passengers flying in and out of LJLA can expect even more because work on security and the departure lounge food and drink options is now finished in time for the busy Easter getaway.

“We’ve been putting in all the latest generation security kit so passengers no longer have to take liquids or large electronic equipment out of their bag,” he explains. “Only half of our security area was available to us at times during the winter so we could get that done but we did the work during what is our quietest time to try and keep disruption to a minimum.

“We’ve also been making some big changes in the departure lounge in terms of food and beverage areas, opening new areas and refurbishing existing ones, and the main phase of that has all been completed.”
