This year’s Pride in Liverpool festival will be held alongside the British Firefighter Challenge, an annual competition for fire service personnel from across the country.

The British Firefighter Challenge, which is coming to Liverpool for the first time ever and will be hosted by Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, will fall on Saturday 27 July and Sunday 28 July – the same weekend that LCR Pride Foundation, the city region’s LGBT+ charity, bring Pride in Liverpool back to the city’s streets once again.

Today, LCR Pride Foundation and British Firefighter Challenge were joined by partners Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and Culture Liverpool at Liverpool’s iconic Pier Head, which will be the central hub for the tens of thousands of event goers on the weekend.

Already announced, the annual March With Pride will also take place Saturday 27 July. Registrations are open for anyone wishing to participate in the march, beginning at St George’s Hall Plateau before making its way through the city centre.

More details of what is being called the ‘Biggest Pride in Liverpool Programme’ are to be released in the coming weeks.

Andi Herring, CEO of LCR Pride Foundation, said:

“We are thrilled to be working with the British Firefighter Challenge team to deliver a weekend of events that people will talk about for years to come. With the support of Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and Liverpool City Council, we can guarantee a unique experience for residents, visitors and businesses alike.”

Chris Trendowicz from British Firefighter Challenge said:

“It is a privilege to bring our event to a city that is world-renowned. Partnering with LCR Pride Foundation gives us a really great opportunity to raise awareness of both the British Firefighter Challenge and the need to celebrate and increase diversity within the country’s fire services .”

Area Manager Mark Thomas from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said:

“We are very proud to be hosting this event on behalf of the British Firefighter Challenge team alongside our friends at LCR Pride Foundation. We have a rich history of Firefighting and sport in Liverpool and with the vibrancy and the unequalled cultural heritage of this magnificent City, what better place to hold the Challenge.
