Quirky Quarter is preparing to reopen its doors

07/07/2020

Liverpool’s best-kept secret visitor attraction, Quirky Quarter, is preparing to reopen its doors to the public next week.

The family-friendly experience will start welcoming visitors again from Tuesday 14th July.

Situated at developer Downing’s student accommodation scheme The Arch, next door to Liverpool’s Imperial Arch, the attraction offers visitors a medley of interactive experiences and brain-stimulating workouts, puzzling challenges and oddball photo opportunities.

Downing has supported Quirky Quarter throughout lockdown to assist with lease terms and ensure the attraction has been able to safely reopen.

The team behind Quirky Quarter have been implementing new measures to keep visitors safe and socially distanced. Physical distancing markers have been placed throughout and strict handwashing and hygiene procedures will be in place.

Guests will be able to book an exclusive arrival slot using its online booking system and must-visit with members of the same social bubble.

As an additional measure, the attraction has introduced an overnight ultra-violet sanitisation and staff will be equipped with gloves, visors and facemasks.

As a way to say ‘thank you’ to NHS staff working during the Covid-19 pandemic, the team will reopen its doors to NHS workers and members of their social bubbles from 9-12 July for exclusive, free entry to the attraction.

Jenny Feaver at Quirky Quarter, said:

“We wanted to say a big thank you and show our support to all of our wonderful NHS staff who have been working heroically during this pandemic.

“We have given four days at the start of our reopening from 9-12 July entirely free of charge for NHS and emergency workers. We are pleased to say that the event is now almost full.

“We hope a visit to Quirky Quarter will give them a chance to have some well-deserved quality time with their close ones and most importantly to have fun. Quirky Quarter would like to thank Downing for all of their support during this challenging period and we’re are really looking forward to reopening our doors to them next week and welcoming the rest of the public from Tuesday 14 July.”

Quirky Quarter is based on the site of the former Scandinavian Hotel, which had been derelict for more than three decades before being acquired by Downing and brought back to life as one of the early success stories of the Liverpool Echo’s ‘Stop the Rot’ campaign.

Downing transformed the old hotel and adjoining warehouse in 2015, as part of a multi-million-pound regeneration programme to create The Arch.

John Clegg, head of property management at Downing, said:

“We’re very excited to see Quirky Quarter opening its doors again after a highly successful launch earlier this year. Downing has been working closely with the Quirky Quarter team throughout lockdown to assist with lease terms and we’re delighted to see that they are looking positively to the future again.

“We are indebted to the NHS heroes who have been at the frontline of the Covid-19 response and gestures such as this event will hopefully demonstrate the city’s admiration for their hard work and selflessness in helping to keep the public safe.”
