Rain or shine, here’s your guide to exploring Wirral with the kids this Easter

It is just us or have the Easter holidays come around far too quickly this year? Feels like only yesterday we were tucking into our Christmas dinner, and if you’re anything like us, you’re still pretty skint from the festive season too!

With just days to go before school’s out for two weeks, the panic sets in about how to entertain the kids for a full 14 days without skipping a mortgage payment. Surely it cant be that difficult what with miles of beaches, parks and forests offering up free-fresh-air fun, right on our Merseyside doorsteps? Oh but hang on, we live in the north and the British weather loves to chuck as much rain our way as possible throughout Spring, which totally puts the mockers on picnics and sandcastles!

With the weather in mind, we’ve rounded up 10 ideas for you and your little ones to explore Wirral this Easter holidays, come rain or shine! How many will you get experience?

1 – Church Farm, CH61 0HW

Church Farm in Thurstaston is always great at Easter with special events on from Good Friday to Easter Monday. The Easter Egg Hunt starts with a tractor ride up into the magical forest, where eggy clues are hidden for kids to fill in on their puzzle page. Some of the clues are questions, some are in code and many involve games of skill, making it great fun for the whole family. Once you’ve completed your puzzle page there’s a certificate and chocolate gift for each little one.

The ticket price includes your egg hunt and an opportunity to meet the Easter Bunny in person. Farm park admission for the whole day is included too with animal feeding sessions, tractor rides and more. Info and tickets here.

2 – Goredale Nurseries, CH64 8TF

Goredale garden centre has a Spring Trail on throughout the Easter Holidays. Kids get to become a detective for the day, follow clues on the worksheet and find the missing bunnies. Once all the rabbits have been found, your mini detectives will be rewarded with a Lindt bunny. While there you can check out the awesome café, outdoor play area and see the peacocks which roam the gardens. Eevery day from 1st April to Easter Monday (Except Easter Sunday). Cost £2.50 per child. 3 – Port Sunlight River Park, CH62 4LN

Port Sunlight River Park isn’t very well known but it’s real hidden gem and perfect fro a cheap day out with fresh air and awesome views of Liverpool. If you follow the path from the car park, you reach a summit which shows off the Liverpool waterfront and skyline in all its glory. Great for exploring and working up an appetite!

The River park is holding an Easter Trail on Easter Monday from 11-3pm which is suitable for kids age 5-11. Plus there’s also an egg hunt for younger ones age 2-6 at 2pm and 3pm. Meet at the Mersey View Picnic Area 10 mins before the start. All the info here.

4 – New Brighton Championship Adventure Golf, CH45 2HZ

It may be a good diea to save this one for a guaranteed dry day as it can be pretty bracing down on the New Brighton waterfront. Adults will enjoy this as much as the kids – it’s good, competitive fun. Each team gets a scorecard so it even helps the little ones with their adding up – especially when it tales mum ten shots to get the ball in the hole yet dad does it in two! Loser buys the ice-creams!

There’s two courses to choose from – the Championship course, inspired by the world’s greatest golf holes and the Landmark course based on local landmarks and history. Open 7 days a week 10am til 6pm. Cost for 18 holes is £4.50 for kids age 5-15, £6.50 for adults. More info here.

5 – Lady Lever Art Gallery, CH62 5EQ

Lady Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight runs Easter holiday activities for kids in most of the school holidays – and this Easter is no exception. The museum are laying on special See, Make & Do craft activities on 4th, 5th, 6th and 11th of April from 1-4pm and the sessions are suitable for kids under 10. Mini crafters will get the chance to make a piece of art to take home. The events are free and there’s no need to book. Check out the events page here for more info.

6 – Eastham Country Park, CH62 0BH

This hidden gem is a great place for kids to explore with lots of space and a dog-free play area. It’s particularly good for bird watching too! There are nature trails to follow through the woodlands and there is even a bear put so make sure you keep an eye out for any furry friends! There are a couple of pubs and cafes nearby if you get peckish and great views over the Mersey too. Grab your wellies and discover more here.

7 – Birkenhead Park, CH41 4HY

Birkenhead’s most famous park is great fro a cheap day out, or just a few hours kick about or scootering. There’s plenty of space for the kids to run about, a large play area, climbing rock and lots of areas to explore. As an added bonus the café in the Visitor’s Centre has started stocking the ever popular ice cream from New Brighton’s award-winning Caffe Cream. With loads of flavours from cookies and cream to candy floss and our personal fave- Sticky toffee fudge.

Special events this Easter include a Bat Day – featuring abt-themed crafts and an evening bat walk on Wednesday 12th April. Easter Egg rolling is happening on Easter Saturday 15th April from 11-1pm too. All the info you need here.

8 – Wirral Transport Museum, CH41 1BG

Take a trip on an original, vintage tram this Easter hols! Wirral Transport Museum are holding their annual Easter egg hunt on Easter Saturday and Monday where every child will receive an entry form when they hop on board. All completed forms will get a Crème Egg and will be entered into a daily draw for a main prize egg.

9 – Horrible Histories at the Floral Pavilion, New Brighton, CH45 2JS

Take the kids to see gruesome yet hilarious show, The Best of Barmy Britain, produced by Horrible Histories. Based on the crazy history of our beloved country, this brand new love stage show features special 3d effects and thrills and enthrals the kids with all the nasty and gross bits from our chequered past! 10 – Bubbles World of Play, CH45 2HZ

With the unpredictable weather, sometimes its just easier all round to go for a safe option like softplay! Particularly good for younger kids and babies, Bubbles World of Play at Marine Point, New Brighton has handy parking, a tasty and affordable menu, and plenty of play-frames, soft shapes and fun games to encourage your little ones to burn off some steam.
