Aintree Racecourse, home of the world-famous Grand National, has unveiled a stunning mural honouring the legendary racehorse Red Rum.

Situated above the newly-renovated Red Rum Bar at Aintree Racecourse, the mural serves as a tribute to one of the most celebrated champions in horse racing history.

In the second year of the five-year Red Rum 50 campaign, Aintree Racecourse continues to create enduring landmarks across the site.

This year’s highlight is the addition of the mural, which pays homage to Red Rum’s remarkable legacy. Visitors to the Festival Zone enclosure are encouraged to visit the Red Rum Bar to admire the artwork up close, and don’t forget to get your selfie!

Red Rum became an iconic figure in British horse racing, capturing the hearts of fans with his unparalleled success at the Grand National.

Trained by Ginger McCain, Red Rum clinched victory at the prestigious event not once, but three times, in 1973, 1974, and 1977. His remarkable feat of winning three Grand Nationals remains unmatched to this day.

However, it was Red Rum’s epic duel with L’Escargot in the 1974 Grand National that etched his name into racing legend. Facing off against the Cheltenham Gold Cup winner, Red Rum showcased his tenacity and sheer determination, crossing the finish line to secure his second consecutive Grand National triumph.

The striking mural, created by street art specialists MurWalls, captures the essence of Red Rum’s historic victory and serves as a lasting tribute to his extraordinary career. Its vibrant colors and dynamic design bring to life the excitement and drama of that unforgettable race.

As visitors gather at Aintree Racecourse to witness the thrills of the Grand National, the Red Rum mural stands as a poignant reminder of one of the sport’s greatest champions. It serves as a testament to Red Rum’s enduring legacy and his enduring place in the hearts of racing enthusiasts worldwide.
