Reggae legends Black Uhuru set to bring iconic music to Birkenhead this summer
3 days ago

Get ready for a night of legendary roots reggae as one of Jamaica’s most iconic bands, Black Uhuru, heads to Future Yard in Birkenhead this summer.
Taking place in Birkenhead on Friday 27th June 2025, the show which includes legends Black Uhuru, will be held in Future Yard’s outdoor garden space, and is part of a special Africa Oyé fundraising series designed to keep the spirit of the beloved Liverpool festival alive, even in a year without the main event.
Still led by original founder Derrick “Duckie” Simpson, Black Uhuru are true pioneers of second-generation reggae. Over the years, they’ve racked up some major accolades, including winning the very first Grammy Award for reggae, not to mention clocking up the highest reggae record sales after Bob Marley and becoming one of the most sampled reggae acts of all time. So yeah – you know you’re in for something special.
Africa Oyé’s Artistic Director Paul Duhaney said:
“We knew there was going to be a big reggae-shaped hole in our audience’s summer this year with no Oyé festival, so we jumped at the chance to team up with our friends at Future Yard to bring some bonafide roots reggae legends to Birkenhead.
It’s set up to be the perfect summer evening, and if you’re part of our Liverpool family who haven’t made the trip across the water to this brilliant venue yet – this is the one to book for.”

Black Uhuru will take to the outdoor stage just days before their slot at Glastonbury, so expect the energy to be high and the tunes flowing. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or discovering them for the first time, this is one for the diary.
Doors open at 7:30pm and tickets are on sale now via the Future Yard website – but don’t hang about, this one’s going to be popular.
