River of Light Trail : Light A Wish with The Guide Liverpool

Close your eyes, think of your needs, Make a Wish as you blow the tiny, little seeds…

There are so many times over the last year that we’ve all longed for a fairy godmother, or a magic wand to wave to change the world we lived in.

Who wouldn’t have chosen to banish Covid to the clouds, save our loved ones from suffering or make things easier to help our hardworking NHS?

While we can’t promise to erase the last 12 months, we can join together and look forward to a fantastic future for the city we love.

Part of the magic of the River of Light Trail, the Light a Wish art installation of 20 illuminated two-metre dandelions floating on the canal on the Pier Head is a symbol of the hopes and dreams of Liverpool and everyone who lives here.

And to celebrate it, The Guide Liverpool wants you to ‘Light A Wish for 2021’.

You can wish as big as you want, or as small you like; you can wish for yourself, or for someone else… but remember that anything is possible in this city of dreams we love.

Maybe you’d wish to hold your gran for the first time since the Covid crisis began, and whisper how much you love her as you feel the warmth of her cuddle?

Perhaps you dream of clicking your fingers and transporting yourself to your favourite holiday destination, so you can laze by the pool with a Pina Colada or set off on a brilliant adventure.

You might be a little Liverpudlian who just wants a new toy to play with, or to get your hands on the latest exciting computer game to set your pulse racing.

Or maybe, you simply wish you could go down to the pub and have a few bevvies or a glass of wine with your mates.

Whatever it is, we’d love to know.

The Guide Liverpool Director, Jay Hynd, says:

“As we look forward to lockdown restrictions lifting, it’s time to focus on the future – and what better place to do that than here in Liverpool, a city that’s always about looking on the bright side or facing everything with a smile.

“We’ve all got things we’d wish for, and we really want to know what yours are.

“We’re thrilled to create this virtual wishing well with the River of Light Trail. It’s a great opportunity for us all to share our hopes and dreams for the months ahead, and beyond, and to unite together and look forward with positivity.”

Jay adds: “We can’t promise to make every wish happen, but we can have a laugh and a bit of fun together as we face the future with the certainty that things will get better – because we will unite to make them better.”

If you want some ideas, over the next few weeks The Guide Liverpool will be showing videos of famous faces who’ve revealed what they would wish for.

And, we’ll also share some of our favourites from you too.

All you need to do to Light a Wish is fill in the form below and, hey presto, it’s as if it’s granted!

Beyond that, just enjoy the amazing spectacle that is the River of Light Trail which will see Liverpool transformed into a giant outdoor illuminated art gallery, a year to the day lockdown began.

A series of spectacular audio and visual installations featuring the work of local, national and international artists, it will be there for all to see from Tuesday, March 23 to Monday, April 5.

    Among them is:

Rainbow Bridge – a 30.5-metre long, 9-metre high rainbow made up of more than 25,000 programmable LEDs which will show changing visuals and messages.

All in the Balance – an illuminated kinetic artwork of a giant butterfly mobile surrounded by wild grasses and flowers, celebrating nature and the arrival of spring.

Neighbourhood, a washing line hanging across Castle Street with illuminated laundry.

And, of course, Light a Wish!

There’ll be 11 installations in total, set along a 2km walking loop along or near the river.

So, enjoy, and don’t forget to share your wish – and your photos – with us as we look ahead to a brighter future in Liverpool. Tag us on socials too @TheGuideLpool #LiverpoolLightAWish
