Riverdance star returns to Liverpool’s Capstone Theatre with stunning flamenco trio
1 year ago
A Riverdance star is bringing a new show featuring ‘vibrant and elegant flamenco with a contemporary twist’ to Liverpool later this month.
On Friday 28th July at The Capstone Theatre, Magdalena Mannion’s ‘Flamenco Trio’ will showcase dance, piano and voice, travelling together through a vibrant and elegant repertoire of traditional flamenco with a twist.
Magdalena is a strong and rhythmic dancer of great expression and charm, with a more contemporary approach to flamenco, and was a soloist in the 2021 sell-out tour of Riverdance, delighting audiences with her ‘Firedance’.
She brings with her two artists from Córdoba in southern Spain; Alfonso Aroca, an award-winning flamenco pianist and composer; and Elena Morales, a singer (or cantaora) who will be performing the traditional flamenco song.
The trio originally performed together in one of Madrid’s ‘tablaos’ (a specialist flamenco venue) – Café de Chinitas – and their shows in Liverpool and Manchester bring a much anticipated reunion. As well as a solo dancer in her own right, Magdalena dances alongside flamenco maestros Manuel Liñan, Alfonso Losa and Rafaela Carrasco, presenting prize winning shows at international flamenco festivals.
Magdalena was also the flamenco soloist in the 2021 sell-out tour of Riverdance, delighting audiences with her ‘Firedance’.
Sarah Chambers, Espíritu Flamenco, said:
“I love the traditional flamenco and the sheer musicality of these artists. It’s such an exciting art form, with the emphasis on expression of feelings and the incredible improvisation.
We have had messages of thanks from members of the who have felt elated after these performances and others who have cried tears of emotion arising from the passion of these great artists.”
Magdalena Mannion’s ‘Flamenco Trio’ will perform at The Capstone Theatre in Liverpool on Friday 28th July, presented by Espiritu Flamenco.
