Sam Rimmer’s mum has paid tribute on what would have been his 26th birthday
1 day ago
A Liverpool mum has paid a moving tribute to her son on what would have been his 26th birthday, as detectives continue to appeal for information into his murder.
Sam Rimmer was fatally shot in Dingle in August 2022. To mark his birthday on Tuesday 6 January, his mum Joanne Rimmer shared a heartfelt message, while Merseyside Police reiterated that the investigation remains ongoing.
At around 11.40pm on Tuesday 16 August 2022, Sam was with a group of friends on Lavrock Bank when two people on electric bikes entered the cul-de-sac and fired several shots towards them. Sam was injured in the attack and, despite the efforts of emergency services, later died in hospital.
Ten people have been arrested in connection with Sam’s murder, but no one has been charged to date.
In a fresh tribute issued today, his mum Joanne Rimmer said:
“I share a birthday with Sam. This year is a day that was always intended to be a joyful joint celebration of my 50th birthday and Sam’s own. There will now be no celebration — only a quiet day that the family and I hope will pass as gently and quickly as possible. Sam’s birthday will forever be a painful reminder of his absence and the devastating loss felt by those who loved him.”
Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath said birthdays and anniversaries are particularly difficult for families affected by violence and said officers are thinking of Sam’s loved ones on what should have been a special day.
He added that the investigation remains active and that police are determined to find those responsible. Detectives are urging anyone with information, no matter how small it may seem, to come forward and help bring justice for Sam’s family.
Anyone with information can contact Merseyside Police on 101 or via direct message to @MerPolCC, quoting reference 22000603397. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
