She Inspires programme wins Sports Initiative of the Year
2 hours ago

A Liverpool project using football to empower young women has scored another big win, taking home Sports Initiative of the Year at the Manchester & North West England Prestige Awards.
She Inspires is funded by Merseyside Police’s Chief Constable and the Police and Crime Commissioner, and delivered in partnership with Liverpool County FA, LFC Foundation and Everton in the Community. The programme gives vulnerable young girls across the city the chance to build confidence, develop life skills and connect with support networks — all through the power of football.
Last season, more than 800 pupils from 40 Liverpool secondary schools took part in workshops and football sessions designed to boost teamwork and self-belief. Pupils also enjoyed visits to Anfield and Goodison Park, and took part in large-scale events at LCFA Sefton, where they met local organisations and explored potential career paths.
Next season, She Inspires will expand into primary schools, doubling its reach to around 1,600 pupils across Merseyside.
Merseyside Police Chief Constable Rob Carden said:
“This programme is all about empowering young women, building confidence and creating safe spaces where they can thrive. We’re proud to see it recognised with this award.”
Police Commissioner Emily Spurrell added:
“She Inspires is showing young women that anything is possible, and it’s fantastic to see its impact celebrated.”
Liverpool FA Chief Executive Anthony Smith praised the collaboration behind the project, adding:
“Together with our partners, we’re helping girls across Merseyside build skills and confidence both on and off the pitch.”
As She Inspires heads into its fourth year, it continues to make a difference in the lives of young people across the region — proving that football really can change lives.
