So LIMF is launching its own radio station and Jay & Ellie are back together for it…

Liverpool International Music Festival is back in just over a month, this year it is bigger and better than ever before and to celebrate that fact they even have their own FM radio station for 2016.

Broadcasting locally on 87.7FM, as well as online via www.LIMFradio.co.uk, the station will be used to reflect the past and present Liverpool music scene as well as featuring artists and bands who will be taking part in July’s highly anticipated event. The radio station will also be an invaluable platform for the region’s new music, presenters and DJs, once again highlighting the festival’s commitment to new talent and strengthening the local scene and industry on a global scale.

Jay Hynd and Ellie Phillips

But that’s not all, the station will also see The Guide Liverpool‘s original presenting duo reunited and back on the airwaves. Jay & Ellie will be hosting LIMF drive time Thursday’s and Friday’s from 4pm, once again getting you ready for the biggest free music festival in Europe. Last year Jay & Ellie hosted a dedicated LIMF radio show on former station Juice providing a platform for local musicians who were playing, talking to the stars heading to the festival and getting Liverpool in the mood for LIMF 2015.

Ellie says “LIMF is the stand out event in Liverpool’s music calendar for me and I am so excited to once again be able to shout loud and proud about it on the airwaves, and to be reunited with my radio hubby. Getting Liverpool in the mood for LIMF last year and delving into it’s eclectic lineup on the radio was certainly one of my highlights

LIMF Breakfast taking place from 8AM – 10AM is presented on weekdays by Ben Osu and Mark Johnstone on the weekend. The LIMF Drive time show from 4PM – 7PM is presented on rotation by LIPA graduate Dan Kraines and our very own Jay Hynd and Ellie Phillips. As well as former Juice presenters Jay & Ellie being involved, if you loved the Juice weekend then you will love LIMF radio as Liam Hincks and Ian Longo will be proving the tunes for your weekend with the Weekend Mix.

LIMF Radio will also provide training for 35 local young people who want to enter the industry. Sessions will be led by BBC Radio 1 presenter Adele Roberts, former founding manager of BBC 1Xtra, Ray Paul and Laura Lukanz who is the former music manager of BBC 1Xtra and EVP of First Access Entertainment. Station Manager duties fall under the responsibility of 24 year old Liam Broughton, an up and coming talent in Liverpool’s music scene who has already successfully managed a local radio station for Everton and Black History Month.

LIMF Music Curator Yaw Owusu says this of the project, “Naturally we are always trying to find interesting ways to develop new talent and create platforms to showcase both established and emerging music and music creators. The LIMF Radio project is another way we are able to do this as we present a platform that will not just share all the good and the great of what’s happening at LIMF but will also reflect some of the great new sounds and musical movements happening in Liverpool right now!”

The project will provide industry standard training to the team of volunteers that will be working on the station – this allows those involved to understand how, why and what makes great radio, and will also give a firm skills footing on the media ladder.

The volunteers will be in safe hands with some of the best in the business being selected as mentors, for example few can claim to have had as much experience in radio as former BBC Executive Ray Paul. His 27 years experience has seen him win six Sony Music awards from sports to music and documentaries, and also head up the weekend programming at Radio 1. He will be joined by Laura Lukanz – former music manager of BBC Radio 1Xtra and now EVP of First Access Entertainment who look after the likes of Iggy Azealia, Ellie Goulding and Zayn Malik. Completing the trio is local hero and BBC Radio 1 presenter Adele Roberts, who has her own show from 4:30-6:30 am and has interviewed some of the biggest stars in the business, from 50 Cent to Tinie Tempah.

Station Manager Liam Broughton comments, “It’s a great honour to be invited to station manage the first ever LIMF Radio. With so much incredible talent within the city, we have a lot to celebrate. We want to provide the ultimate platform for these talents whilst being an entertaining outlet for people to listen in to in the lead up to LIMF – the leading festival in our amazing city.”
