Hold on to your hats and keep your eyes on the skies, The Southport Air Show is back.
The thrilling Southport Air Show returns this weekend and now is the time to plan the perfect weekend filled with family entertainment. Returning to the sea front from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th September 2019, this years show includes aerial acrobatics and family fun down on the beach, with something for everyone.
Historical aircraft, parachute displays, acrobatics, fireworks and a whole Air Show Village packed with attractions, all combine for one umissable weekend at the seaside. What are you waiting for? Scroll down to start planning your Southport Air Show experience.
Here’s everything you need to know if you’re going to the Southport Air Show this weekend…..
When & Where
The Southport Air Show takes place on Friday 6th, Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th September 2019 on the Southport sea front.
Times
Friday: Gates open at 6pm and the event will finish at approximately 10:30pm. Car parks will be open from 5pm.
Saturday & Sunday: Gates and attractions open at 10am. The flying display begins around 12pm and ends at approximately 5pm. On both days the show closes at around 6pm. Car parks will be open from 9am on both days.
Marine Drive will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists from Weld Road to Fairway with effect from 4pm until 10pm on Friday and 7am until 7pm pn 16:00 – 22:00 on Saturday & Sunday.
Getting There
Train
The easiest way to get to Southport Air Show 2019 is by public transport. Merseyrail operate frequent train services to Southport, with family tickets costing as little as ÂŁ11. The nearest train station is Southport, which is about a 10 minute walk from the event site on the sea front. Plan your train journey here.Â
Bus
Arriva North West operates bus services in and around Southport including the 300 from Liverpool Queens Square to Southport Union Street. Plan your journey and get your tickets here.Â
Parking
There are a number of official Southport Air Show car parks, including the beach. It’s just ÂŁ5 to park on Friday and ÂŁ6 on Saturday and Sunday. You can add parking on to your ticket purchase. Find all the directions and parking info here.

What’s On
In The Air
The skies above Southport sea front will be illuminated on Friday night as the first day of the Air Show gets underway. Expect flying displays to music with pyrotechnics and LED lights that will knock your socks off. If all that wasn’t enough, the evening will close with an amazing fireworks display from Sirotechnics – the British Musical Fireworks, Champions of Champions!
Across the whole weekend you’ll see fast jets, historical aircraft and jaw-dropping aerobatics. Watch as the Tigers Army Parachute Team spiral to the beach, the FireFlies Aerobatic team soar through the sky, inching past each other at tremendous speed and watch in awe as the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight brings history to life above the sea front. On The Ground
At the centre of the event you will find the Air Show Village with stalls selling an eclectic mix of gifts, sweets, models, military clothing and official Red Arrows Merchandise. Kids will be entertained with water walkers, helter skelter slide, inflatable assault course and total wipe out game. Don’t forget to snap a pic with the stunning Lytham St Annes replica Spitfire.
It’s not just eyes on the skies at Southport Air Show. The beach area will be packed with fun activities for the kids. The Lancaster Lounge
Take your Southport Air Show experience to the next level and book premier tickets for The Lancaster Lounge. Situated next to the historic Southport Pier, The Lancaster Lounge experience includes nearby parking, souvenir programme and pass, hot and cold refreshments within the marquee and the best seat in the house (other than next to the pilot!) from the pier. Find out more here.
Accessibility
There are disabled car parking spaces at all of the Southport Air Show car parks, apart from beach parking and they’re on a first come, first served basis. Disabled toilets are available on site within the disabled viewing areas. The disabled viewing areas are located one adjacent to Southport Pier and one is located at the entrance to the beach by Pleasureland. Â These are identifiable via white flags.

Air Show Do’s & Dont’s
Do brings the kids along! Children under 5 go free!
Do aim to arrive as close to the gate times as possible. It’s going to be busy so allow plenty of time to travel.
Do check out the Southport Air Show dedicated radio station 87.6FM for updates and commentary across the event.
Do bring your own picnic and snacks. But don’t bring a BBQ – health and safety first.
Do bring your dog along for a fun filled day. Do keep them on a lead and do clean up after them. Please do keep in mind that the aircraft make a lot of noise and may not be suitable for your pooch.
Don’t attempt to fly a drone in or around the Southport Air Show site. It’s against the law and you may be prosecuted.
Don’t expect to park on the beach if you’re driving a campervan, motor home or van. Stick to the car parks.
Don’t bring any of the following items: Dangerous or hazardous items, Illegal substances, explosives or ammunition, fireworks, knives, blades or other weapons, firearms, laser devices, smoke canisters, transmitting devices. Searches will be in operation. More information and FAQ’s here.
