Southport Sprint Revival returns this September
1 hour ago

Preparations are racing ahead for the return of the Cataclean Southport Sprint Revival this September.
The event, which is the only one of its kind in the north of England, will see cars from across the eras taking on timed runs along Marine Drive by Southport Beach on Saturday 13 September 2025.
For one day only, speed limits will be lifted as competitors battle it out against the clock, making for a spectacular sight on a stretch of road usually reserved for everyday traffic.
Spectators can book both free and VIP tickets in advance, with VIP access available near the start and finish line for £10. The extended 1,650m course will see cars running in both directions along Marine Drive, giving fans plenty of opportunities to get close to the action.

Michael Ashcroft, chairman and director of Aintree Circuit Club, said:
“We’re really building up to this event now, with some fantastic cars confirmed that we know people will love watching. It’s a brilliant opportunity for families to come down and enjoy everything on display. We want to see the Cataclean Southport Sprint Revival really well supported.”
This year marks the third time the event has been held, with organisers keen to grow it further. Southport’s seafront provides the perfect backdrop for a motorsport spectacle, with easy parking nearby, plus plenty of restaurants and bars around Ocean Plaza and the town centre for those making a day of it.
The Sprint Revival will once again revive the historic course used up until the early 1960s, before the Coastal Road was built. Running under a Motor Race Order and Speed Permit from Motorsport UK, the event allows Sefton Council to temporarily suspend the Road Traffic Act to create a safe, closed-road circuit.

Michael added:
“Last year we had more than 40 cars take part, with incredibly close times between the leaders. We’d love to see even more entries this year. This event is unique in the UK – there’s nothing else like it – and it’s a great way to celebrate and build on Southport’s rich motorsport heritage.”
Entries are still open for those who want to put their cars – and their driving skills – to the test.
The Cataclean Southport Sprint Revival will run from 6am to 6pm on Saturday 13 September 2025, with Marine Drive closed for the duration. Diversions will be in place.
The event coincides with the Southport 24 Hour Yacht Race, making it a packed weekend of outdoor sporting action for the town.
