SPAM® Can UK Tour launches in Liverpool ONE this Saturday…
8 years ago

The officially named SPAM® Can Tour will launch in Liverpool during the official SPAM® Appreciation Week on 5th March 2016 and travels around the rest of the UK until end of August 2016. It is 75 years since SPAM® Products came to the UK, and until 1998, it was originally manufactured at Liverpool’s Newforge Foods’ Gateacre Factory in Halewood. For these reasons, the city was the obvious choice to kick off this unique and exciting tour.
The SPAM® Can Tour launch will take place in Paradise Place, Liverpool One and runs from 11am-5pm on Saturday March 5th and will be in situ until Monday 7th March. A specially designed, eye-catching airstream will be serving up free SPAM® Fries samples to passers-by. Visitors can also have fun with friends and family by having their photo taken in the Giant SPAM® Can. Fans will also receive a free commemorative tour booklet that shows the various ways ‘SPAM® Can’ be enjoyed, from the ultimate breakfast fry up to traditional favourites such as SPAM® Hash, plus a free branded trolley coin that can be used in all major UK supermarkets.
One man who will certainly be there is Halewood’s Mark ‘I Love SPAM’ Benson. Yes that is his real full name! Mark changed his name by Deed Poll! His Grandad worked at the factory and he has fond memories of that period. The factory is now a Morrisons supermarket and he always buys his SPAM® Products from there. There’s a special mural on the wall in Morrisons to commemorate the factory’s history.
So if you’re in and around Paradise Place in Liverpool ONE on 5, 6 or 7 March, it’s your chance to experience the great taste of SPAM® Chopped Pork and Ham – for free!
