Speke Hall to host community Apple Day this weekend

The historic local landmark Speke Hall, managed by the National Trust, will be hosting a community-focused Apple Day this Saturday 21 October.

Speke Hall will welcome visitors, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, to come together for a day filled with apple picking, pressing, tasting and juice drinking.

The day will see visitors and volunteers helping to collect apples from Speke Hall’s orchard. There will then be opportunities to taste the apples, press them in electric and hand presses and sample the juice. 

Surplus apples from the event will be donated to a range of different organizations, including food pantries in Liverpool, Manchester, and Lancaster, and the event is a great opportunity to inform visitors about British grown apples, the different varieties and what to do with surplus food.

Graeme McGrath, Speke Hall’s Volunteering and Community Officer, said:

“Apple Day is a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together, enjoy the beauty of our orchard, and the juice of our apples and to learn about food waste. We’re looking forward to sharing our apple harvest and donating surplus apples to local food pantries. We’re grateful to our partners, Feedback Global for their help in setting up the event, as well as the Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority (MRWA) and the Ennismore Foundation for providing funding.”

This community day is also an opportunity for residents of Speke and Garston to sign up for Speke Hall’s Neighbours’ Pass scheme, which allows local residents to visit the property for free throughout the year.
