Thousands attended this year’s Appreciate Group Liverpool Santa Dash on Sunday raising money for a host of local charities including Alder Hey.
Four-year-old Alder Hey patient Betty officially started the fun-run and was also joined on the day by Alder Hey Charity Champion LFC’s Jamie Carragher.
It was the 18th consecutive Liverpool Santa Dash, which is highly regarded as the city’s kick-start to Christmas.
Betty was joined on stage by Mum Karen and sister Martha, while Dad Phil and brother Stanley were also in attendance.
As well as the thousands of Santas you’d usually expect there were also people donning elf costumes, Elvis suits and dinosaur outfits. Plus it wasn’t just ho ho ho that could be heard across the route, woof woof woof was also a common sound as many Santa’s brought there pooches along too.
The race finished on Castle Street with thousands completing the course under artificial snow-fall.

Organisers BTR Liverpool announced Alder Hey Children’s Charity as the event’s official charity. The hospital recently launched its new £2.5million Surgical Neonatal Appeal to help develop a state-of-the-art unit for newborn babies and their families.
BTR Liverpool is the leading independent organisation for creating, managing and delivering headline race events across Liverpool City Region.
The Liverpool Santa Dash was created by BTR Race Director Alan Rothwell and was first staged in 2004. A separate 1K Mini Dash for under 12s was added in 2007, and blue Santa suits were introduced in 2010 with hundreds of kids taking part this year.
