Liverpool ONE is giving visitors the chance to explore the city’s incredible history this September with a programme of free events as part of Heritage Open Days.
From guided walking tours to the chance to step beneath the streets and uncover the Old Dock, families and history lovers can discover Liverpool’s past in a unique way – without spending a penny with Heritage Open Days.
Heritage Open Days is England’s biggest festival of history and culture, running from 12–21 September 2025. Each year, venues across the country invite people to explore hidden spaces, traditions and stories that shaped their communities.
Free Guided Heritage Trail Tours:
12, 13, 16, 19 & 20 September
10am-11am & 1pm-2pm
Join a 60-minute guided walk through Liverpool ONE to uncover the city’s transformation from a small fishing village into a global maritime hub. Expert guides will bring the stories of Liverpool’s world-changing dock system and seafaring legacy to life. Tours are fully accessible and suitable for all ages.
Free Old Dock Drop-in Sessions:
15 September
10am, 11am, 12pm, 1.30pm & 2pm
In partnership with National Museums Liverpool, visitors can head underground to see the Old Dock – the world’s first commercial enclosed wet dock. Hidden beneath Liverpool ONE, the Old Dock was uncovered during excavations in 2001 and tells the story of the city’s role in global trade. Expert staff will be on hand to share insights and answer questions.
