Step into Croxteth Hall’s Walled Garden this summer
5 hours ago

Croxteth Hall’s historic Walled Garden is welcoming visitors with everything from immersive storytelling and open-air jazz to guided botanic tours and Shakespeare with a playful twist.
Here’s what’s on:
Private Botanic and Heritage Tours — every Tuesday and Sunday in July and August. Some are free, others ticketed from £6.50
Take a stroll through this beautiful Walled garden on an expert-led tour. Discover seasonal highlights and meet the gardeners who keep this special place thriving.
The Giant’s Blanket — 23 July, 11am and 2pm, £7.70
Artist Claire Weetman brings a gentle giant to life in this warm storytelling session. Families can join in with imaginative play using the giant’s soft blue blankets.
Tap and Jazz on the Lawn — 30 July and 27 August, 6pm to 7.30pm, free
Bring a picnic, roll out a blanket and enjoy an evening of live jazz and tap dance with Sole Rebel and a jazz trio.
Rubbish Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet — 28 August, 2pm and 6pm, £10 / £7 concessions (under 5s go free)
A chaotic, laugh-out-loud version of the classic love story from the Rubbish Shakespeare Company. Expect silly wigs, audience antics and even flying sausage rolls. Early booking is advised.
Family Open Days — 7, 14 and 21 August, 10am to 3pm, free
Perfect for all ages with walkabout performers, character meet-and-greets and activities to keep the kids entertained.

Money raised from ticket sales will help look after this historic garden, which has been part of Croxteth Hall’s story for generations.
Last year the garden’s botanical collection was awarded £245,000 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to help create a new home for rare plants and repair the landmark Peach House. Work is due to start later this year with plans to welcome visitors back to see the plants by spring 2026.
Councillor Harry Doyle, Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Culture, said:
“These events are a brilliant way for people to discover or rediscover the magic of Croxteth’s Walled Garden. It’s a special place full of history and nature, and this summer’s programme means even more people can enjoy it.
It’s really positive to see the Peach House restoration moving forward too — we’re proud to invest in this space and keep it alive for the community and future generations.”
Croxteth’s Walled Garden is a living link to the past, featuring Victorian glasshouses, seasonal displays and rare botanical specimens cared for by a dedicated team of gardeners and volunteers.
