Could you be the next Billy Joe Armstrong? Or maybe there’s a Joni Mitchell or Stevie Wonder in you just waiting to step into the limelight, well there’s just enough time to get your entries into a local competition that could just be the start of a glittering career.
The Liverpool Acoustic Songwriting Challenge is a truly unique event where songwriters are challenged to write a new, original song inspired by the art on show at Mathew Street’s independent View Two Gallery.
Returning for its sixth year, the Liverpool Acoustic Songwriting Challenge 2016 launched on 10th September and entries close on Sunday 9th October, so you’ve got just over a week to get your entries in!
To enter the challenge a songwriter chooses a piece of art on display at the View Two Gallery and has until the closing date to write a brand new song inspired by it, and submit it as a recording along with a copy of the lyrics and a photo of the art. The judges will listen to the art-inspired songs and mark each one for lyrics, melody, composition and originality.
The top ten songs will be performed at the Showcase Final on the evening of Friday 25th November where the Judges’ Award winner will be announced. The Audience Favourite song will also be chosen.
Have a listen to 2015 winner Maria Silker (pictured above) with her song The Right Goodbye here and if you need a little more inspiration check out some of this years brilliant and often exclusive live performances here.
The winning songs in the two categories – Judges Award and Audience Favourite – will be professionally recorded at Liverpool’s Crosstown Studios.
To start off the creative process, get yourself down to The View Two Gallery, which is open Fridays and Saturdays, 12.00pm to 5.00pm and at other times by appointment. Contact and location details are just a click away!
