Strawberry Field, the iconic Liverpool visitor attraction immortalised in song by John Lennon and The Beatles, is gearing up to launch an exciting new Summer Sounds music programme from 2 June – early September 2024.
Inspired by the nostalgic echoes of Lennon’s past summers, Summer Sounds invites families and friends to relive the magic of bygone days with a summer-long celebration of music at the legendary Strawberry Field Bandstand.
Collaborating with partners such as Talentbanq, Black Deer Festival, Caffè Nero Presents, and London and Liverpool Rising, Strawberry Field has curated a diverse music programme that promises to delight music enthusiasts of all tastes.
Kicking off the Summer Sounds schedule on Sunday, 2 June, Black Deer Live will showcase the best of the Americana music genre, with a spotlight on country music.
The lineup features local band Motel Sundown, known for their blend of folk, country, and Americana influences. Joining them is rising star Katy Hurt, whose soulful vocals and heartfelt lyrics have earned her widespread acclaim.
Throughout the Summer, the Strawberry Field Bandstand will host free events every weekend, featuring some of the northwest’s finest brass bands, string quartets, and choirs.
Audiences can expect performances from beloved local ensembles such as the Liverpool Walton Salvation Army Brass Band, Hope Street Harmonies, Penny Lane Jazz, and the Liverpool Harmonic Gospel Choir.
In addition to musical performances, visitors can explore a craft fair on 6 July, take part in traditional play and craft sessions during ‘Get Back to Play’ days every Tuesday throughout the summer holidays, and enjoy the year-round exhibition exploring the history of Strawberry Field and its connection to John Lennon.
As the Summer Sounds programme fills the air with music, visitors can also take advantage of the tranquil gardens and treat themselves to delicious refreshments at the on-site cafe.
Later in the programme, Strawberry Field will also be hosting both Caffè Nero Presents on 14 July, Liverpool London Rising on 2 August, and live music for International Beatleweek in August promising more memorable moments. More details of these will soon be announced.
Major Kathy Versfeld, mission director at Strawberry Field, said:
“Many people are familiar with Salvation Army brass bands, and the spiritual connection many associate with that music, so it is wonderful to welcome them and other musicians to Strawberry Field. We’re delighted to offer free events all summer, allowing the local community to come together for traditional summer celebrations.
“It’s also exciting to offer something different with our three partner events, each with their own individual flavour and giving local and upcoming artists an opportunity to perform at the famous Strawberry Field.”
