Strictly Come Dancing: The Best of the Glittering Scouse Contestants
8 years ago
It’s officially Autumn! The leaves are falling, we’ve broken out our fave boots and tights combo’s and weekend TV is all about X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing……the only questions is……which one should we watch?
Ooooohhhh did you catch all the drama as the dance-off was cancelled tonight? Poor Melvin….Poor Anastacia!
If your living room is commandeered by sparkly outfits and glitter-ball trophies on a Saturday and Sunday night, you’ll love our rundown of the best Scouse toe-tappers from series past.
Abbey Clancy
By far the most successful Scouse contestant to take on the ballroom is Model and TV presenter Abbey Clancy. Right from the off Abbey stormed into series 11 of Strictly Come Dancing as the judges favourite and pulled off stunning performances in both Latin and ballroom dancing. With newcomer Aljaz Skorjanec as her partner, Abbey was the first celebrity to score a perfect 40 during ‘musicals’ week and went on to lift the glitter-ball trophy with a knock-out show dance to Guns N Roses track ‘Sweet Child of Mine’.
Claire Sweeney
Actress and TV Presenter Claire took part in series 1 all the way back in 2004 and finished in 5th place with partner John Byrnes. Our very own Lindsey Corkhill showed the judges what she was made of having trained as a child at Liverpool based Elliot Clarke Theatre School. Claire has since gone on to perform in countless West End shows and presented Loose Women and 60 Minute Makeover or ITV.
Jimmy Tarbuck
Comedy giant, Jimmy took part in series 4 of Strictly and faced stiff competition from the likes of Spice Girl, Emma Bunton and England Cricketer, Mark Ramprakash, who went on to win the series. Jimmy was partnered with the stunning Flavia Cacace who managed to manoeuvre him through two weeks of routines before bowing out gracefully in 12th place. What a gent.
Matt Dawson
Also foxtrotting his way into series 4 was Birkenhead-born Matt Dawson. Former England Rugby Captain Matt was a real underdog however his partner Lilia Kopylova made a real performer out of him scoring 38/40 for his waltz and 34 for his American Smooth performances. Matt narrowly missed out on winning the series to cricketer Mark Ramprakash, and had to settle for second place.
John Barnes
Alright so John isn’t technically a Scouser but FourFourTwo Magazine named him ‘Liverpool’s Best Player of All Time‘ so that has to count, right? John took part in series 5 of Strictly Come Dancing and was partnered with Nicole Cutler. John was the first male celeb to be awarded a ’10’ thanks to a sexy salsa routine, however it wasn’t quite enough to get him to the final, as the couple were voted out in 7th place.
Louise Redknapp
Okay…Okay….. so Singer and TV Presenter, Louise wasn’t born Scouse either, but her 18 year marriage to Liverpool FC golden boy Jamie Redknapp makes me an honorary one at least! Louise is currently at the top of the leader board with partner Kevin Clifton and is tipped to lift the glitter-ball trophy this December. We knew all those dance routines from back in her Eternal days would come in handy! Go Louise!
