Students celebrate at Hugh Baird College as they collect their A-level and BTEC results

13/08/2020

Students at the South Sefton Campus of Hugh Baird College are celebrating today as they collect their A-level and BTEC results and begin making preparations for the next stage in their life.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, students based at the Sixth Form Centre were not able to sit exams this summer and today they found out what grades they had been awarded in each of their A-level and BTEC subjects.

After months of patiently waiting, students are now celebrating having completed their time at the College and are looking forward to their next steps, be that university, apprenticeship or employment.

Jonida Hakija, A-level English Language and Literature Combined, Psychology and Sociology, said:

“My experience at the College has been brilliant, I really felt comfortable and that I was able to achieve my full potential in every lesson. There was always someone I could talk to whenever I needed help. Throughout my time at the South Sefton Campus, I gained confidence, resilience and determination to help me in my future.”

“Today I achieved A, A, B and will be studying Primary Education with QTS at Liverpool Hope University.”

Hannah Devine, A-level English Literature, History and Philosophy & Ethics student, said:

“Studying at the South Sefton Campus of Hugh Baird College has allowed me to grow both academically and personally, every day offered me an opportunity to learn something new. I was able to nurture my passion for English, reading texts that excited me and pushed me to choosing English Literature as my chosen university course.

“A-levels can be overwhelming at times, but with the support of my friends and tutors, my time at the College has been something I will never forget. I have made friends for life, been taught by the most passionate tutors and have grown as an individual.”

“Today I achieved A*, A, B and will be studying English Literature at University of Liverpool.”

Jake Harper, A-level Business, Sociology and Media Studies student, said:

“I have loved my two years here at the South Sefton Campus. Thanks to all my tutors, I have been given so much knowledge and learnt things that I will take toward into my future. I will definitely miss my time here, as well as seeing my friends every day. The past couple of months have really been a challenge and I was sad to have to finish earlier than anticipated, but I know we will all make up for it once the pandemic is over.”

“Today I achieved A*, A*, A and will be studying Marketing at the University of Liverpool.”

Joe Poole, Director of the South Sefton Campus, said:

“The last few months have been incredibly difficult for everybody, especially young people in year 13 who have missed out on the last months of their Sixth Form College experience. I still think back fondly to my last day of Sixth Form, that euphoric feeling of finishing my last A-level exam and the carefree summer.

“Our students haven’t had that this year and it’s such a shame. On top of this, they have had to deal with the uncertainty and anxiety around being awarded grades for exams that they haven’t sat. Despite this, our students have remained positive and upbeat and I am so proud of them.

“It’s so nice to see them again and to see them smiling and excited about what they are going to do next. Part of our job is to try and develop young people and get them ready for their next steps and what I’ve seen over the last 5 months is a group of students who are robust, resilient and mature. I have no doubt that they are ready for whatever comes next for them and I wish each and every one of them the very best of luck for the future.”
