Petrol heads and car enthusiasts from around the north west flocked to Columbus Quay on Sunday as Cars & Coffee Liverpool showcased a huge range of supercars and bikes.
Despite the drizzle, a large crowd had gathered before the event opened at 9:30am on the grounds of the Chung Ku restaurant, queueing to a soundtrack of numerous Porsche, Maserati and Lamborghini engines pulling into the carpark.
Cars and Coffee originated in the US, where owners of vintage motors and super cars alike would get together in shopping mall car parks to chat and admire the vehicles on display.
Self-confessed ‘Petrolholic’ and Cars and Coffee Liverpool founder, Mr Norman Shum heard about the gathering through LA based friends and decided to bring the event to Liverpool, all in aid of local charities.
Mr Shum said:” Cars bring people together, just like football or music and there’s always huge appreciation for anything social in Liverpool. It’s just in our veins.”
The Right Worshipful, The Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Roz Gladden, and Consort Roy Gladden attended the event and spent over an hour chatting with owners and enthusiasts about the huge range of new and vintage scooters and cars on display.
Councillor Gladden has chosen to sponsor Claire House, R Charity, Tom Harrison House and Liverpool Heartbeat during her 12 months as Lord Mayor.
She said:” I am hoping to raise a lot of money for my charities this year but just as importantly I want to raise the profile of the excellent work they do in very difficult circumstances.”
From sales of coffee, charity buckets and the infamous Chung Ku char shui buns, the event raised £400 in support of the Lord Mayor’s charities, in just 3 hours.
