Swapping the train for the bus during the Merseyrail Strike? Here’s 9 things you only know if you travel on the legendary 10A
8 years ago
The bus network around Liverpool is a proper marmite situation. Love it or hate it, you can’t deny that the legendary 10a bus route from the city centre right through to St Helens is never a dull ride!
Whether you’re a £4.30 day rider or a £2.20 single fare, there’s always a seat for you on the 10a! Here’s 9 things you only know if you travel on the 10a.
1 – There is always one person who tries to buy a single fare with a £20 at 8am on a Monday morning and stands there arguing with the bus driver about being late. Wise up, buy some Space Raiders and get some change!
2 – Having to sit next to that person with their headphones blaring.….and they listen to Westlife.
3 – The utter horror of realising you’ve forgotten your own headphones and having to occupy yourself taking in the sights and sounds of deepest darkest Old Swan. What an Abattoir!
4 – Which brings us swiftly on to the megaphone mouths who shout at their mobile phones, which are already on loud speaker, discussing why they’re on their second warning for being on their phone on the shop floor. Riveting stuff.
5 – Watching what seems like 100’s of school kids pile on while trying to pass their tickets back on the sly to lads who don’t want to pay. Little gets.
6 – Getting off the 10A at any stop around 3pm is like an episode of Total Wipe Out. School kids genuinely don’t understand ‘excuse me please’. You’ve got to climb, crawl and tunnel your way off. Get your elbows out or miss your stop!
7 – People who ring the bell to get off despite the fact there are already three people stood at the front waiting to get off. Why?
8 – Giving the death stare to anyone with a bag on a seat when you have to stand all the way from town to Page Moss. Fuming.
9 – If you’re brave enough to get the 10A anytime after the evening rush hour, there’s guaranteed to be at least one person singing. Spreading Christmas cheer, Paddy’s Day ditties or belting out My Liverpool Home is included in your ticket price on the 10A, and you’ve gotta sing along!
To the fit workies, the girls perfecting their eye-liner, the parents juggling bags and buggies and the pensioners who always have a smile and a gab, you’re all part of the 10A tale, and we wouldn’t change a thing!
