Sweatcoin partner with Liverpool app Busby to ensure people exercising can earn rewards while staying safe
4 years ago
A new partnership between Busby and Sweatcoin has been launched to enable outdoor enthusiasts using smartphone safety technology to earn rewards while exercising.
Busby works in the background of a smartphone to automatically detect incidents like a crash, fall or injury, before asking the user if they are okay and alerting emergency contacts if help is needed in real time.
Creators and Liverpool-based trio Kirk Ryan, James Duffy and Barry Green have also developed a threat reporting system in their app with an SOS feature allowing vulnerable road users to call for assistance wherever they are in the world.
Sweatcoin, meanwhile, is one of the world’s leading incentive platforms. They reward people for walking, and their steps are counted and converted into a new type of currency, sweatcoins. These can then be redeemed in exchange for exclusive rewards including gift cards, lifestyle products, gadgets, digital subscriptions and more.
Kirk Ryan, co-founder and technical director at Busby said:
“We’re extremely excited to partner with Sweatcoin to create a rewarding experience for our Busby users while they protect their outdoor activities.
“As a result, not only can their loved one’s have peace of mind that everything is OK, but our users can now earn sweatcoins to purchase exclusive products and offers from our Marketplace.
“Both Busby and Sweatcoin teams worked tirelessly to bring this partnership together in a short amount of time, and our users have much more to look forward to throughout our partnership.”
The collaboration between both companies is a huge bonus for outdoor enthusiasts.
Sweatcoin previously rewarded users for walking but the safety integration with Busby now converts multiple activities such as cycling, skiing, running and jogging into sweatcoin currency too.
Jack Warrilow, head of strategic & API partnerships at Sweatcoin, said:
“This is a powerful addition to the ecosystem of apps using Sweatcoin as a rewards provider. It diversifies the healthy habits we want to promote, beyond walking and running, and is a step in the right direction towards a healthier, happier planet.”
Busby co-founder Barry was involved in a serious collision with a van around four years ago which started the three friends thinking about how they could develop software to help vulnerable road users involved in serious incidents.
Busby monitors the sensors within smartphones. If something irregular occurs such as a fall or incident, Busby sends the users’ exact What3Words location to their emergency contacts anywhere in the world and is accurate to within 3sq m – a feature matched by no other location safety technology.
More features are set to be developed by the Busby team to create a wrap-around of safety, including breakdown recovery and assistance for riders plus emergency services alerts.
Busby, the free app has thousands of downloads across 90 countries since launching in 2020 and has been tested on the roads for over 5 years to make the safety features the most advanced in the world.
Apple approved their guidelines to allow Busby to launch following an intensive review into the algorithm.
Busby’s incident detection model has achieved 99.99996% accuracy and users will now be able to benefit from the collaboration with Sweatcoin while they already have partners such as TIER Mobility, Bird Scooters and will be announcing more in the near future.
