Last night seen the cast of a new musical take over The Cavern on Mathew Street. The stars of ‘Shout! The Mod Musical’ gave a stunning performance of some of the 60’s greats you will find in the show which hits the Royal Court Theatre from 20th May.
The show racked up an amazing six 5 star reviews while in Edinburgh and the Royal Court are delighted to bring Shout! home.
Shout! takes the audience back to the heady days of the swinging 60s and celebrates the music, dance and fashion of those psychedelic flower-power days of love and peace. Max Emmerson has re-created George and Lowensteinâs non-stop party atmosphere but also their story of five women who face the challenges of growing up and changing over the decades.
Audiences will laugh, cry and sing along to chart-topping hits from 60s greats like Petula Clark, Dusty Springfield, Lulu and Cilla Black as they travel with the gorgeous girls on their journey of life.
Royal Court Chief Executive Kevin Fearon said, âWe saw the show at LIPA last year and we were keen to see how it developed in Edinburgh. We were confident enough in the cast and creatives that we made a small investment in the showâs Edinburgh run and now we want to show it off to Liverpool audiences. I think that this is going to be a real hit!â
Shout! features a cast of 6 LIPA acting graduates, as well as other LIPA graduates forming the band, creative and technical teams. Filling the role as The Voice of Shout! is Liverpool acting and comedy legend Michael Starke â best known for playing Sinbad in Brookside. Not only that but Michaelâs daughter, Hayley Hampson â who starred in the Royal Courtâs Christmas show, Pharaoh âCross The Mersey, and the current production of The Golden Oldies – plays one of the girls in the show!
The other confirmed cast are: Emily Chesterton, Sarah Folwell, Miriam OâBrien, Evangeline Pickerill and Katie Tyler. Francesca Goodridge will Direct, Simeon Scheuber is the Musical Supervisor and Andrew McKayis Choreographer.
Since the passing of the late Cilla Black, Hayley is honored to sing, âYou Are My Worldâ by another Liverpool legend. âCilla is a Liverpool icon and someone who really shaped the face and sound of the 60s, performing her song in the show is our tribute to such an inspiring lady and her incredible careerâ.
Max Emmerson is delighted to be taking the show to The Court: âWe had the Fringe audiences laughing, crying and even dancing in the aisles, and we canât wait to bring such a feel good 60s show to Liverpoolâ.
