‘The Golden Oldies’ Starting Next Week at the Royal Court

Liverpool’s Royal Court is out to show that the old ones are the best with a brand new comedy from Dave Simpson!

The show is a real feelgood comedy that is packed with 50s and 60s music. Set in a Day Care Centre, a group of 60-somethings get together to form a choir. An old rocker persuades them to add in a few more upbeat numbers and they soon find themselves entered into a Battle Of The Bands!

The full cast is now confirmed as: Ruth AlexanderEithne BrowneDennis ConlonAnnie EdwardsGreg FossardHayley HampsonPhil HearnePaul Kissaun and Olwen Rees. They are joined by members of the Royal Court Community Choir and other local choirs.

Dave Simpson is best known for plays The Naked Truth and Raving Beauties. He has also written for Emmerdale and Coronation Street and was writer in residence at Manchester’s Library Theatre for a number of years.  Royal Court favourite Bob Eaton Directs.

Queens Drive Day Centre is a place for relaxation, winding down and de-stressing in your later years. A few board games, Countryfile on the telly and the occasional day trip to Dobbies is about as exciting as it gets. There is choir on a Tuesday which is usually a peaceful affair. That is until Benny, an old 60s rock ’n’ roller, arrives to spice things up a bit.

Everything suddenly goes up tempo and before they know it they have been entered into a Battle Of The Bands. It’s time to ditch the walkers and grab a guitar as the old rockers square off against the best young talent around. Can the old guard still cut it? Will hip op beat hip hop? Will they get back in time for Countdown?
