The Liverpool bike tour with unlimited beer getting five-star reviews from parties
1 year ago
The Beer Bike Liverpool tour, which lets people pedal their way around the city with unlimited beers, is getting five-star reviews from parties.
After launching in Europe, then expanding to London and Newcastle, Beer Bike moved into Liverpool earlier this year after learning about our reputation for loving a good time and having a laugh.
Since then the tours, which start by the Klopp artwork in the Baltic Triangle, have proved a massive hit with stags and hens, and with groups of mates and family looking for a different way to celebrate together.
Operations manager Athanasios Koufis says pedalling through the streets and along the dockside on a giant bike, with tunes playing and drinks flowing, never fails to put a smile on people’s faces.
“We chose Liverpool as a location because we were looking for places that had a culture of entertainment and we take into consideration what people like,” he says. “Liverpool is known as one of the favourite destinations in the UK when it comes to people wanting to party, and now from our own experience we know that’s true.”
The bikes definitely make an unmissable sight around the city centre as they go on a one-hour loop around the Baltic, waterfront and Chinatown.
Each one can seat up to 14 people, with pedalling platforms on both sides – the bikes are 100% pedal powered by riders who get bottomless beer while they cycle.
“That’s why our tours last around an hour, because that’s the sweet spot between enjoying the experience and being exhausted!” jokes Athanasios.
“We have a member of staff who steers the bike who is always sober, because we want it to be safe for everyone too so they can just concentrate on enjoying themselves.
“It is nice for people to be able to enjoy music as they pedal so although we are the hosts for their special day, we give them a chance to have their own music playing. That way they can create their own experience, through music and by dressing up in costumes if they want to.”
Athanasios says the tours do attract a mix of men and women – there’s an option to upgrade and add prosecco onboard – and it’s not only stags and hens, even though there are plenty of those.
“We have lots of groups of family and friends celebrating birthdays or just getting together to do something and we try to involve the bikes in other events so for instance we participated in London Pride. We also did a speed dating event collaborating with a dating site which was really popular, so we try to think a bit out of the box because it can be such a fun activity.”
The company was first launched in Bratislava by its director who comes from the Czech Republic. Then came Prague and Vienna before Beer Bike arrived in the UK, first in London and Newcastle, and mostly recently Liverpool.
Tours take place from early morning until around 9pm depending on demand and although the bikes are open to the elements Athanasios that doesn’t put off serious party lovers.
“People come on in all weathers. Last year in Newcastle I did the first rides on the first weekend in December and I believe that the Newcastle winter is super-harsh, so hopefully it’ll be much less cold in Liverpool!”
