Kick off! Just what you have been waiting for. Welcome to The Guide Liverpool’s new weekly sport feature. Aptly named The Liverpool Sports Guide. We will be covering everything from footie to frog racing, boxing to bobsledding.
Best of the Upcoming Weekend Action – Get involved!
Everton FC are away Manchester City this Saturday whilst Liverpool FC host Manchester Utd on Monday night, therefore there won’t be any big league footy on Scouse soil this weekend, but fear not. This is your chance to get active!
What better way to kick-start your weekend then a run in the park? The Croxeth Park Saturday morning 5k Parkrun has it all! Pace setters, snacks, nature on route and a time recorder. It doesn’t matter if your a seasoned runner or someone looking to make room for all roast dinners to come over the winter, its perfect for you. Saturday 1st October saw a total of 281 runner taking part. It’s a nine-am start, so no drinking the night before! Check out the runs official twitter feed for the latest updates. https://twitter.com/croxhallparkrun
Running not your thing? Why not have a go at Canoeing then? Check out the Liverpool Watersports Centre website and see if it tickles your fancy. According to the oh-so reliable weather forecast, it looks like we might be in for a nice weekend, so get yourself wet-suited up and out for a paddle! https://www.liverpoolwatersports.org.uk/
If you don’t fancy having sore legs or getting wet, there’s a whole host of non-league footy fixtures to watch in decent pubs right across the city . Check out our guide to Liverpool’s football teams here.
The Team of the Week
Speaking of non-league footy, City of Liverpool FC are our Team of the week. Following a 1-nil win over FC Oswestry Town on Tuesday night and a dramatic 2-2 draw on Saturday against Daisy Hill, the Purples confirmed their slender lead at the top of the Hallmarks Security First Division. They are sitting pretty thanks to goal difference, so there’s likely to be high drama to come. Follow the Purps on Twitter and check out their website.
It wouldn’t be fair not to mention Jamie Carragher’s Liverpool Legends 11 who played a fundraising match at Bootle FC on Sunday. Fantastic to see so many legends donning their boots for a game with a good cause. Nice one Lads.
Some of the Best Tweets from the Scouse Sport Scene last Week
The Mad Dog 10K in Southport has been voted Britain’s best 10K three times, so it’s good to see next years race is already full! Good luck to all the runners!
Great day thanks to all for coming, we won & I missed a sitter! https://t.co/Zsz1xQliMr

A Blast from the Past
Liverpudlians have a reputation for being as hard as nails, and our boxers certainly live up to this stereotype. John Conteh is arguably the greatest fighter to ever get in the ring and represent Liverpool. A Kirby native who was knocking heads off in the 70’s, John beat fellow Light HeavyWeight Ferenc Kristofcsak on 10th October 1972, in his march towards becoming World champion. Have a look at this Conteh highlight reel, smooooooth.

We want to spread the word about the latest sport happenings in the city, but in order for us to do so, we need your help!

Anything goes, as long as its Scouse and its sporty!
