The Shankly Hotel is celebrating two years with this amazing piece of memorabilia
7 years ago
The Shankly Hotel is celebrating its second birthday and to mark two incredibly successful years as one of Liverpool’s top hotels, it’s unveiling a previously never-before-displayed piece of iconic memorabilia.
A telegram from The Beatles to Bill Shankly reveals how the Fab Four wished Shankly and Liverpool Football Club luck in the 1965 FA Cup Final against Leeds, which the team went on to win what would be their first ever FA Cup for the club.
And this amazing piece of history which links up two Liverpool legends will be on display in the hotel from the beginning of September.
The telegram which reads: “Best of luck lads we’ll be watching on the tele. John Paul George and Ringo” will be proudly displayed from Monday 14th August until Sunday 20th August for Shankly fans, friends and family to come and view.
The Shankly Hotel, which opened its doors in August 2015 has enjoyed two thriving years where its staff has welcomed over 150,000 guests to stay in the showstopping rooms.
The Victoria Street venue is now the largest capacity hotel in the city with its 509 beds, and the hotel is adding more in the coming months.
The Shankly has become notorious in Liverpool for its service and outstanding, innovative rooms, and is the place to stay when embarking on a trip to the city. The hotel operates at 99% occupancy each weekend, whilst others in the city enjoy far less.
Some of the Shankly’s most impressive rooms are booked on weekends for 18 months in advance.
In the two years it has been in operation, the hotel has also scooped three prestigious awards.
In the first 10 months of opening alone the Shankly had won both Laterooms.com’s Simply The Guest award making the hotel the best UK luxury hotel on their website. This was voted solely by guest reviews, proving its popularity with visitors, and Liverpool City Region Award’s Best Newcomer gong which was presented to owners Lawrence and Katie Kenwright and Bill Shankly’s grandson Chris Carline Shankly in a glittering ceremony at St George’s Hall.
Since then, the hotel continues to go from strength to strength and was honoured again by Trivago after scooping top place in the Best Rooms category in The Top Hotels in the North West for serviced apartments, including the spectacular sharing rooms at the Shankly Hotel.
Co-founder of The Shankly Hotel Chris Shankly-Carline says: “I still can’t quite believe we have this amazing hotel which honours my grandad.
“He touched so many lives so it means everything that we can give fans, friends and family a place to come that pays tribute to his achievements for the city.
“The Shankly Hotel is everything and more than I ever imagined it would be and its first two years have been incredibly successful so it’s a great achievement for myself and the Shankly family along with everyone at Signature Living.”
