The Watering Can forced to close due to flash flooding
2 years ago
One of Liverpoolâs most loved cafĂ© bistros, The Watering Can, has suffered severe flooding to the entire building following torrential downpours.
Diners were left stunned yesterday as rain water began to rise around them at an alarming rate and service had to be curtailed as the team followed health and safety measures to secure the site to minimise the damage caused to the building and the disruption to guest’s dining experience.Â
As the heavens opened, the water level rose incredibly quickly with rainfall from the flooding Greenbank Road pouring downwards and engulfing the popular café bistro. Despite staff attempts to stem the flow with make- shift defences, it did not take long until the picturesque venue was submerged under several inches of water.
Owner Keith Perryman said:
âFlooding can be an issue in this area and the inclement weather of the last couple of days coupled with the seasonal falling foliage has proved overwhelming for the drainage system. Our team are working tirelessly to ensure that any period of closure is minimised and normal service resumed as soon as possible.â
The Watering Can, set in 12 acres of stunning parkland in Greenbank Park, was awarded the âHidden Gemâ award at the last Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards and has become a favourite with customers travelling from all over the North West and beyond.
Keith continued: âWe have faced so many challenges over the past couple of years navigating the pandemic and the ongoing difficulties associated with it, but our team are working tirelessly to ensure that we will be back open as soon as possible to welcome our loyal customers. We will be keeping our guests updated on our social media platformsâ
