The Wilson Trophy Sails Into West Kirby this weekend
5 years ago

It’s time to dust off your deck shoes – the 70th annual Wilson Trophy sailing event, is cruising back to the Wirral this coming weekend.
The world class sailing extravaganza is taking place at West Kirby Marine Lake sailing ‘amphitheatre’ from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th May.
The event attracts some of the world’s most skilled sailors, along with many fleet racing and match racing world champions and Olympians.
The unique Marine Lake venue is perfectly suited to team racing with (usually) uninterrupted winds blowing across the Dee Estuary. This allows the racing to take place just meters from the shore giving the public an epic view of all the action. A perfect spectator occasion, viewing is complimented by expert commentary and a specially constructed grandstand.
With typically close to 300 races being run over the three days, the Wilson Trophy is equally well regarded for its off the water activities and the whole town takes on something of a carnival atmosphere. With over 30 teams and hundreds of fans flocking in from the across the globe there will be plenty going on to keep visitors happy across the three-day event.
If you don’t know your starboard from your boom, don’t worry, it’s a great opportunity to see top class competitors in action and if the weather God’s are kind, we are sure that wonderful West Kirby will put on a great show.
