Theatre shows to look forward to in 2025

Itâs been a boss year in the city with loads of shows at our theatres from amazing musicals like Dear Evan Hansen, Wicked, Hairspray and more, to jaw-dropping Shakespeare and mysterious thrillers.
The good news is that thereâs even more to come next year so if you love to be entertained by fantastic live performances, get booking now.
Hereâs what youâve got to look forward to in 2025âŚ
Liverpool Empire
From classic comedy to opera, itâs all going on at the Empire with loads of great shows we reckon youâll want to look out for like Chicago, from February 10-15, with Coronation Streetâs Faye Brookes as Roxie Hart, the housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her lover when he threatens to walk out on her, and from March 25-29, Boys From the Backstuff, James Grahamâs powerful new adaptation of Alan Bleasdaleâs BAFTA award-winning TV series. Add to that Tina, the mega-hit musical about the life of singer Tina Turner arriving in August as part of its first ever UK & Ireland tour, and Hamilton from May 6 to June 7 â there are some belters.

Royal Court
The Royal Court sees more crackers on in 2025 including The Peaceful Hour with Julie bemoaning the lack of a love life as she listens to Pete Price on The Peaceful Hour from February 14 to March 8, and the story of Speedo Mick â The Scouse Stomper, on from May 30 to July 5. Also one to get tickets to is The Legend of Rooney’s Ring, about a mighty warrior from Liverpool called Wayne! You can have a chuckle at this from July 18 to August 23.

Everyman
There are some classic love stories on at the Hope Street theatre including â always a hit â Willy Russellâs Shirley Valentine from March 1-29 about the Scouse housewife who flees dull domesticity to find love on a Greek island, and Shakespeareâs heart-wrenching classic Romeo & Juliet from September 13 to October 4.

St Helens Theatre Royal
TVâs Psychic Sally brings her brand of modern mediumship to the stage on January 15 â so you can maybe find out what the year holds in store for you, and the theatreâs back with another smash-hit panto for February half-term with Beauty and the Beast delighting young and old from February 15-23. Before panto time though, you can take a journey back in time to remember Michael Jackson, the man, the music and the magic, on January 30, starring the UK’s ultimate Michael Jackson tribute star, Ben Bowman.

Shakespeare North
Jane Austen’s classic story of scandals, scoundrels and severely sprained ankles is one of the highlights at the Prescot theatre with a funny, fast-paced and faithful new adaptation from the critically acclaimed Pantaloons Theatre Company. It features live music, audience interaction, romance, and heartbreak, and you can catch it in the Cockpit Theatre from May 15-17.

Floral Pavilion, New Brighton
You can catch up with the hilarious antics of Rita, Sue & Bob Too! with Jake Quickenden as Bob in the 80sâ cult classic about two working class girls who babysit for married couple Bob and Michelle from February 26 to March 2, before things get a little more serious with Peter Jamesâ Picture You Dead from May 20-24. DSI Grace investigates a cold case that leads him to the world of fine art but beneath the respectable veneer lurks a dark underworld of greed, deception and murder. The Buddy Holly Story is a cheerier offering from March 10-14 when you can learn all about his Texas rockabilly beginnings which led to international stardom.

Playhouse Liverpool
More Shakespeare in the city, this time with The Merchant of Venice from February 4-8, when Tracy-Ann Oberman stars as Shylock in an imaginative new version of the classic set in 1930sâ Britain. The record-breaking West End hit Ghost Stories is on at the Playhouse from March 11-15 when âthe ultimate love-letter to horror is imagined live on stageâ and there are more twists and turns from May 13-17 in the play adapted from Paula Hawkins thrilling novel, The Girl on the Train, in which Rachel Watson finds herself as a witness, and even a suspect, in an ever-deepening mystery. EastEndersâ Louisa Lytton stars.

Unity
You can always guarantee thought-provoking theatre at the Unity and 2025 is no exception. It gets in there straight away in February with My Brother Sammy and Smiles, a double bill of two new short plays presented by 20 Stories High Actors LAB and Unity Theatre. On from February 4-5, My Big Brother Sammy follows Jess and her older brother, Sammy, on the night of their nanâs 70th birthday party; when Sammy receives a life-changing message, it forces Jess to confront their relationship in a whole new way. In Smiles, life throws unexpected challenges towards two unlikely friends.
