There’s a Burns Night celebration at St. George’s Hall
7 years ago
It’s time to get the haggis in, pull out the tartan and get your bag-pipes on the go, the annual celebration of all things Scotland is nearly here.
An original and diverse musical celebration of the life, work and philosophies of Robert Burns will come to St George’s Hall next week, Wednesday 24th January.
Band of Burns is a collaboration of twelve artists from the top echelons of the folk scene, coming together to perform a truly distinct show which celebrates the life, works and philosophies of Robert Burns.
Bringing elements of the musical traditions of their homelands; Scotland, Ireland, England, Wales, and Turkey, the band originally formed for two shows last January. As well as a love of Burns’s writings, all share a belief in the values he championed – equality, social justice and the power of love – and in their pressing relevance amid today’s troubled times. The band are currently preparing for the release of their first album, recorded at Live at London’s Union Chapel and a nation-wide tour.
”Centred on arresting new versions of classic Burns songs, the band’s material also takes in original compositions and instrumental sets, delivered by an array of compelling vocalists, together with fiddle, bagpipes, and rhythm section. Their crowdfunded debut album, Live at the Union Chapel, thrillingly captures the magic of that triumphant London première.’‘ Celtic Connections, 2017.
