There’s a giant gift hunt happening where you can win tickets to the Light Before Christmas at Liverpool Cathedral
2 hours ago
The Light Before Christmas is ready to shine at Liverpool Cathedral for 2025 and you can take part in a giant gift hunt around the city centre to win tickets.
Liverpool Cathedral is getting set for the welcome return of its annual Light Before Christmas projection which opens on 28 November and runs until 6 December, and you can be there for free!
The gift hunt is a playful nod to the theme of this year’s show: The Gift. Designed by the world-renowned Luxmuralis team, this year’s theme has been carefully chosen to reflect several elements: the gift of peace, the gift of Christmas, and how the Cathedral was gifted to the city by the same people who built it.Â
The gift – a distinctive red box tied with gold ribbon – will be hidden at three iconic city centre locations from 1pm, giving locals the chance to uncover exclusive Light Before Christmas tickets, along with a selection of surprise gifts inspired by the locations where the box is hidden such as two £50 Liverpool ONE vouchers, a £50 voucher for St Johns Shopping Centre and two tickets to Southport Flower Show.
Simply keep an eye on Liverpool Cathedral’s social platforms for all the info about hunting for giant gift boxes which will be dotted around the city centre, and inside you’ll find your free tickets.
The Light Before Christmas is an unmissable Christmas tradition for tens of thousands of families, and it’s back for its fourth spellbinding year. You can witness the magic come to life through a brand-new theme and completely new series of projection artworks: The Gift – a celebration of warmth, wonder and the joy of togetherness.Â

Following years of sold-out success, this beloved family tradition is set to shine brighter than ever before, illuminating one of Liverpool’s most iconic landmarks with new, immersive light and sound experiences as the Cathedral plays host to an awe-inspiring journey punctuated by stunning projections and mesmerising soundscapes. As the Cathedral transforms into a luminous wonderland, visitors are also invited to pause and connect not only with the breathtaking architecture and festive spirit, but with their loved ones and those less fortunate, embracing the true essence of this year’s theme.
Designed by the world-renowned Luxmuralis team, this year’s theme has been carefully chosen to reflect several elements: the gift of peace, the gift of Christmas, and how the Cathedral was gifted to the city by the same people who built it. For this reason, Light Before Christmas promises to be a magical, family-friendly experience for both young and old alike.
And to complete the experience, the Welsford Bistro will be serving a delicious Christmas market-inspired menu, perfect for those cosy winter nights. Visitors can indulge in festive delights as they soak in the sights and sounds of the light show, all while feeling that unmistakable sense that Christmas has truly begun.
The Very Revd Dr Sue Jones, Dean of Liverpool, said:Â
“For many, the true start of Christmas begins with a visit to the Cathedral and Light Before Christmas, so I am delighted to see it return for its fourth year. Liverpool Cathedral was built by the people, for the people, and this year’s theme: The Gift, is the perfect reflection of that. Light Before Christmas provides families with the opportunity to experience the Cathedral like they have never seen it before, and I look forward to welcoming them and sharing the gift of peace and joy this Christmas.”
Alissa Koopal, Director of Enterprise, said:Â
“At this time of year, there’s an abundance of wonderful Christmas shows, pantomimes, and performances to enjoy; each bringing its own special sense of magic and family tradition. Among them, Light Before Christmas at Liverpool Cathedral manages to stand out as something truly unique. For me, Light Before Christmas is one of those experiences family’s look forward to year after year. With this in mind, we wanted to have some fun and give everyone – both long-time fans of the event and first-time attendees – something special to enjoy: a gift hunt for tickets and even more prizes.”
