This waterfront cafe is about to reopen and aims to create”Liverpool’s best full English”

Fika coffee shop is about to reopen its waterfront site in time for summer and owner Anthony Grice has got his sights set on serving Liverpool’s best full English breakfast there.
Fika, at Liverpool Watersports Centre, is packed with customers soaking up the sun and waterside views through the spring to autumn season.
Now coming into its fourth year, Anthony is planning to open its doors again on Saturday April 5, and he’s busy making some changes to the menu.
He explains:
“I’m going to do things a bit differently this year and simplify the menu based on what people like most, so we’ll be more focused on breakfasts because that’s the busiest time of day for us.
“We started doing a full English breakfast at our Woolton coffee shop in November last year and it was massive. It goes crazy every time we do it but the kitchen isn’t really big enough to cope with the demand so I have to stop taking orders.
“I’m going to do it at the Watersports café where I’ve got more cooking space and I’m going to go all-out to create Liverpool’s best full English.
“I’ve got a food blog and I’m always getting people messaging asking where does the best one in Liverpool, I see all the recommendations and I’ve tried some myself.
“I reckon I can make a better one so that’s what my aim is: to have the city’s number one full English breakfast.”

Anthony believes a combination of variety, quantity and quality will see him claim top spot.
“We’re going to have more variety, and really good quality local produce like local sausages, local bacon and sourdough that’s made in town by a friend of mine so hopefully that will make us different to everyone else.”
Alongside the breakfasts, Fika waterfront will serve toasties, homemade cakes and pastries and its biggest sellers – cinnamon buns and Dubai chocolate cake, based on the TikTok hit chocolate.
Anthony is also intending to bring back live music and DJs to create a relaxed atmosphere for customers.
“We have indoor and outdoor seating for about 6-70, with lots on the balcony and panoramic views from inside too, so it’s nice to have chilled out tunes to add to the vibe.
“We’ll be having different musicians and DJs every weekend, including a guy who I’ve invited to come down on the first weekend who plays the accordion and does lots of sea shanties and old Liverpool songs with his mate. He’s actually a customer, they’ve played in the Woolton shop a few times and they’re brilliant.”
Fika at the Watersports Centre will initially open Saturdays and Sundays, 9am to 5pm, adding Fridays and Thursdays as it moves into summer.
“We open April to October because that suits the location best, it’s perfect for the spring, summer and early autumn months when the weather’s warm.
“There are lots of Airbnbs on the waterfront now so that’s been good for us, we see a lot of visitors who are staying down here or people coming for the Arena or in on the cruise ships as well as our regulars.
“Because we overlook the Watersports Centre you can sit and have a breakfast or a cake and coffee and watch all the activities on the water, the boats going up and down, paddleboarders and open water swimmers.”
