Top Ten Must See DJ’s at LIMF from Festival Curator Yaw Owusu

LIMF 2017 is just days away and we are literally bursting at the seams with excitement. The biggest free music festival in Europe happens right here in our city, City of Music, Liverpool.

The festival kicks off in style on Thursday night as Norman Jay brings his Good Times party to the Palm House, mixing up the best 70’s & 80’s funk and soul. Some tickets still available. Then on Friday LIMF Summer Jam begins in Sefton Park with Garage Classical Friday evening, together with the likes of The Farm & XamVolo.

Then on Saturday you will see everyone from Fuse ODG to Fleur East, Naughty Boy & Gorgon City on Central Stage with The Christians & Sugarmen among the names on Its Liverpool Stage. Sunday we welcome Kate Nash, Louis Berry, Becky Hill and Cast with performances from local bands She Drew the Gun & Tea Street Band.

As well as these incredible stage performances for the first time ever this year you will be able to boogie until you drop at the all new LIMF DJ Tent.

We will be bringing you all the action as it happens across the weekend on LIMF TV, you can watch all of our build up so far here.

In the mean time though rather than us do the talking let’s get straight to the man who puts it all together in terms of the festival lineup, LIMF curator, Yaw Owusu will be hand picking his Top Tens this week and next up it is his Top Ten Must See DJ’s.

Leading into LIMF 2017, I thought I’d do a few of my personal Top Ten things to check out.

This category is Top 10 DJ sets to check out.

For too long we have squeezed DJ sets between live performers, but this year we have tried to give DJ’s ample time to do their thing. Plus we have a dedicated DJ tent for the first time ever meaning you can spend eight hours a day if you like with your favourite dance tunes. Long live the DJ. Anyway…

1 – Trevor Nelson

He will be playing nothing but Nineties R&B. SNM.

2 – Norman Jay

Kicking off LIMF 2017 in style at the Palm House, Mr Jay will be playing Funk, Soul and everything in between. Good Times.

3 – MJ Cole

This year we are really celebrating UK Garage and that celebration could never be complete without MJ Cole…check him out in the DJ Tent.

4 – Yousef

I’ve never seen this guy not smash it! One of our cities best.

5 – Kool Dj Red Alert

A Hip-Hop legend…like for real. TBH can’t believe we have him DJing at the Palm House…nuts.

6 – Seani B

Dancehall and Reggae flavours like you’ve not experienced…

7 – Logan Sama

This Grime legend is headlining the DJ tent on Fri night and if you drop in, you’ll understand why.

8 – Stretch Armstrong

ADJ with all the respect and all of the skill, expect to hear some stuff you love and some stuff you will learn to love

9 – Jax Jones

I’ve just seen his stage set up, it’s gonna go OFFFFFF!

10 – Target

Ever listen to his 1Xtra show on a Fri? If so, imagine that live. If not, you seriously need to catch him on Sunday!
