Liverpool Empire
The FA Cup Final of 1974. When Football was Football and the FA Cup was everything. “Keegan 2, Heighway 1, Liverpool 3, Newcastle None” So went the commentary of the great David Coleman.
The Liverpool Empire are celebrating the 50th anniversary of that day, when the Scousers and the Geordies created what is said to be the greatest ever atmosphere at a Wembley FA Cup Final. You’ll Never Walk Alone Versus The Blaydon Races. The All-Red Vs the Black & White stripes.
They talk of the earlier rounds on the way to the final, then relive the final itself, while speaking to players who starred on the day, Kevin Keegan, Ian Callaghan and Alan Kennedy of Newcastle, who of course went on to become a Liverpool legend. We also speak to the Supporters who were there and hear music of the times from The Ragamuffins.
Let The Liverpool Empire take you on a journey back to 1974, the story of Bill Shankly’s Liverpool team and the dawning of a new era of British football dominance under Shank’s number two, Bob Paisley.
Shankly’s farewell. When the FA Cup was everything. When Football was Football.
