The Reader is welcoming award-winning author and poet, Andrew McMillan (Physical, Pandemonium) to their Bookshop for an evening to discuss his debut novel: Pity.

Released in 2024, McMillan’s novel tells the story of brothers Alex and Brian who have spent their whole life in the town where their father lived and his father, too. In his middle age and still reeling from the collapse of his personal life, Alex must reckon with a part of his identity he has long tried to conceal. His only child Simon, now in his twenties and working in a call centre, derives passion from his side hustle in sex work and his weekly drag gigs.

There’ll be an opportunity for a Q&A and book signings at the end of the event.
