Static is a dark comedy that explores one woman’s experience of acceptance surrounding disability and ultimately how to be free.

Arriving in the family caravan following the death of her father and charged with sorting through the bits and pieces of her life, Static is the story of Ruby: a neurodiverse performer coming to terms with her past and ultimately finding her voice.

Elaine Collins is a theatre maker based in Liverpool. Following her degree, she completed an MA in Acting at LIPA. She has been on the Graeae artist development programme and Dadafest Theatre Makers as well as an artist development programme with the British Council. She is a neurodivergent artist with long term health conditions. The piece is based on Elaine’s experience of being a disabled woman and of feeling owned.

“This piece is a semi-biographical story. I have little control over medical decisions regarding my body. I have generally experienced exploitation and intimidation when working professionally and also socially. I am seen as a small consequence in many environments. There has been oppression, violence, intimidation and abuse throughout my life from when I was a little girl to now. I often feel undermined and my voice struggles to be heard.”
