National Trust - Speke Hall, Garden and Estate
Head to Speke Hall this May Day weekend to enjoy the perfect family-friendly day out. Whichever day you choose to join them, you can have a go at archery and pomander making, watch fighting displays, learn about Elizabethan life and see Tudor ladies and gentlemen dancing on the North Lawn.
You can also enjoy specific acts on certain days:
Saturday 4 – Enjoy an old English May Day tradition as the Mersey Morris Dancers bring their lively clashing of sticks, waving of hankies and tinkling of bells to their celebrations.
Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 – Get ready for the best in courtly entertainment as Speke Hall is joined by James the Jester, who will have the whole family laughing along to his jolly japes and circus skills. Mingle with royalty as King Henry VIII and his six wives join them in full period costume, courtesy of Regal Rose Historical Portrayal.
Monday 6 – Let the Galliard Folk Dancers transport you back through the centuries as they perform traditional English country dances such as may have been seen around Speke Hall in years past.
Archery is with the wonderful House of the Black Star archery group, costing £4 for 6 arrows.
Normal admission charges apply, entry is free for National Trust members and under 5s. You do not need to pre-book. All of the activities will take place outdoors, however please note there may be a long queue to enter the house at peak times.
