Directors, photographers, make-up professors, animators, bakers, jewellery designers, videographers and performers all feature in Ukraine Creates – a brand-new video series celebrating the vast creative talents of Ukrainians who have fled to Liverpool following the outbreak of war.

Available on Unity Online and on TikTok, these short films feature moving interviews with Ukrainian artists who open up about their journey, their work, their future and their time amongst the Liverpool creative scene.

The series has been developed by Alyena Rubtsova and Anna Kolesnyk who have created a network of Ukrainian artists now living in Merseyside. These artists include Yuliia Demechenko (voiceover artist), Maria Liakhouska (baker), Karolina (photographer), Tetyana Syvakivstka (jewellery designer), Polina Sharapova (choreographer) and Matviy Rubtsou (animator).

As well as the digital series, these videos will also be available to watch in-venue as an interactive exhibition in the Unity Bar throughout ‘A Place of Hope’ – Unity’s two-week long EuroFestival Festival programme of free theatre, art and special events by Ukrainian refugee artists.

Ukraine Creates is part of Unity’s commitment to nurturing and providing a platform for Merseyside talent through our Creative’pool programme.

With special thanks to Saturn Visual Solutions, who have transformed the digital series into an interactive celebration of the wonderful artists of Ukraine, so that visiting audiences can be introduced to their creative talents.
