Joey and the phenomenal inventiveness of Handspring Puppet Co. are set to amaze thousands at the Liverpool Empire during half term.
Just weeks after Joey visited the Museum of Liverpool. Joey, of course, is the star of the National Theatre’s acclaimed production, War Horse. He came to town recently to visit patrons and staff at the Museum Of Liverpool, take in the iconic Liver Building (and grab a selfie) and pay his respects to Waiting: The Monument To The Liverpool Working Horse down by the River Mersey. The acclaimed production starts a two week run at the Liverpool Empire Theatre from Tuesday 8 April.

Tom Gilbey, the show’s Movement and Puppetry Captain Said:
“It was very exciting to have Joey in Liverpool and see the public interacting with him, The show has enormous cultural and historical importance, so to bring it to a city that mirrors that is an amazing thing.”
War Horse, based on the beloved novel by Michael Morpurgo, adapted by Nick Stafford and originally directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, has become the most successful play in the history of the National Theatre, winning more than 25 major awards including the Tony Award for ‘Best Play’, and has been seen by over 8.3 million people worldwide. This new tour is co-produced with Michael Harrison, Fiery Angel, and Playing Field. War Horse is an unforgettable theatrical experience which takes audiences on an extraordinary journey from the fields of rural Devon to the trenches of First World War France.
