Watch all of our videos from day one of Charity Takeover Week – Clatterbridge Cancer Charity

It’s been day one of The Guide Liverpool Charity Takeover Week and today was dedicated to the phenomenal staff and patients at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

From ten operating sites right across Merseyside and Cheshire, The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and its charity supports more than 30,000 patients, offering pioneering chemotherapy, radiotherapy and proton therapy treatments.

Thanks to your donations and tireless fundraising efforts and significant investment, The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre is bringing a brand new hospital to Liverpool where it will carry out vital research, improve patient experience and carry out the latest therapies and innovations in cancer treatment alongside the Wirral site.

Jay visited The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre to bring you a rare insight into the extraordinary lengths its staff goes to, in order to ease the suffering of patients and their families. When we said the staff at Clattterbridge go the extra mile, we didn’t just mean making cups of tea or wearing fun lanyards for the kids. First up we met Deputy Ward Manager, Luke Millward Browning to talk about the vital duties the nursing staff perform at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre as well as his own special community event, West Kirby Live which also supported the charity.

Meet Katrina Bury, Head of The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity who couldn’t wait to tell us about the £15m appeal that will enable Claterbridge to expand further into the community, and exactly how the charity supports those efforts in everything they do.

We met Paediatric Radiographer, Sarah Stead who treats child cancer patients after they’ve been referred from Alder Hey. The jump from specialist children’s hospital to a Cancer Centre can be frightening, but the amazing staff at Clatterbridge have developed some comforts especially for little ones facing this terrible disease.

Finally, Jay had the chance to chat with some of the patients currently receiving treatment at Clatterbridge and Beth was one of them. Beth was diagnosed in 2012 with breast cancer, it has since spread to her bones, liver and brain. We think you will agree she is one incredible lady.
